If they somehow win this game Dave Clark should retire while he's on top.

If you live in the states you don't know how brutal it is to listen to the Blue Jays announcers. But I guess the payoff is the Blue Jays being swept by the Tigers

The "One Hundred Club" is All-In today. You know you've got a top-notch GM when you can play your 3 man bench and they all have sub .200 BA. Add in Iglesias' .234 and Upton's .231 and you have effectively turned a potent offense into the 1962 Mets.

This from the guy who told us to never criticize the manager, because we haven't managed a major league team. At least be consistent.

I don't like Aviles and Romine starting the same game, but guys do have to rest, and Maybin isn't 100%.

London doesn't get FoxSports Detroit?

You're closer to Comerica than I am, I think.

Neither starting pitcher is off to a great start today. Was hoping the Jays' hitters could remain in their mini-slump for one more game.

Who is criticizing the manager? It isn't HIS fault that team management stuck him with the Bench Boys when he needs to rest his starters. This isn't Ausmus' fault. Look to your owner and GM. Spend zillions on old stars and save money on your secondary players (bench and bullpen)

Yeah, I get that you were ripping the GM more, but it looked like a side dig on Ausmus for the lineup. Moving on....

Aviles "representing" with a single. Did I see him flash a Bench Boy sign standing on first.

And now a Romine single. The Bench Boys are rebelling against Iffy's slam.

What wrong with Victor?

He just sitting so Cabrera doesnt have to?

V-Mart is OLD. Methinks Ausmus is looking at this as a way to give Ol' Brittle Knees two days of rest.

So Howie...you satisfied with Detroit's bench? Got to be a real homer to be happy with 3 sub .200 guys! I don't think doug could make much of those 3/4 guys.

I get a sports package here on my cable and get all the ball games. But when the Blue Jays are playing against say the Tigers they put the Blue Jays broadcast in place of the team they are playing. So as long as they're not playing the Blue Jays I get Fox Detroit.... A fucked up Canadian thing

That's a good point.

There have actually been a few time lately where I've been impressed with how quick he's got down the line. Relatively...

Absolutely not. But if you look at McCann's numbers last year ... not a great hitter, but certainly didn't look like a sub-.200 guy. He was .264 last season. And he's superb defensively. The early season injury set him back. You really wanna rip Al Avila for that?

Salty was a roll of the dice ... a guy with some power who they signed for the league minimum. Didn't expect much more that a low-.200s average from him. He wasn't supposed to play a lot, but had to because of McCann's injury.

And I said many times, I don't see a reason to keep both Aviles and Romine.

Jan 23 & 26, Iffy gives these scenarios as a reason to keep both Aviles and Romine. Now he criticizes Al Avila for having them on the roster. Guess age is affecting your memory more than we thought.

Can't trade Aviles without his OK. I guess they could eat the $2mil they owe him....but that would be admitting to being stupid. As for Tyler Collins....who is he going to pinch hit for? Upton? JD? Cabrera? Kinsler? If you pinch hit him for Castellanos, you have to use your backup infielder anyhow. Ditto with Iglesias. So Collin's role would come down to rare starts in the outfield and pinch running. I think Detroit has a lot more to worry about than that. Like will McCann punch out Iglesias in April or May* (thus the necessity of both Aviles and Romine) and will Gibson and Trammell bad mouth Upton until he cracks?

Possible scenario: Tuesday night Castellanos takes a foul ball off the big toe. DL isn't needed but he'll need a day off (maybe two). Romine takes his place for the Wednesday day game. Your bench is now, Collins, Saltalamachia, and Gose. Tiger middle infielder goes down in the fifth......whatcha do?

Actually there are WAY too many guys on teams that are bad hitters. I think that is part of the reason teams are going more and more to 13 player pitching staffs. In the AL - a backup catcher and 2 utility players. If one can hit, you are lucky. (Hopefully your DH can play somewhere) In the NL - you get four, but you have to have at least two who have a chance to hit in a pinch hitting role.

It appears that the multi-positional player is increasing in value, even if his hitting is only marginal at best. I'd bet Romine and Aviles would find jobs quickly if we released them

Did I figure they both couldn't hit their weight - no I did not. Read my post above.
