I am kind of liking the idea of bringing Moya up right now. Before Maybin returns. (kudos for whoever suggested it first). Let him rotate through the order for a week - or at least until Maybin is ready to return. So what if Upton sits a few games? Give JD a day off, VMart and Miggy too. Yes...that means Gose is in CF every game and Aviles or Romine is his backup. (Upton has played a few games in CF). When Maybin returns, keep Moya or send him back, or dump Gose.....if Moya shows anything, he at least gives the team options.

Part of the reason for Gose's .184 BA is he's the only true center fielder on the team and thus is forced to hit against left-handed pitching more than was planned. A big reason Maybin was brought here was to start and play CF against LHPs. Gose should be grabbing pine every time a lefty is on the mound ... he's a career .203 hitter off LHPs with a godawful .263 OBP.

That said, Moya is also a left-handed bat, so I don't see him as any long-term solution. But he's worth a try until Maybin is fully ready to return. The only way Moya sticks after that is if Gose is sent down, because I can't see Ausmus keeping five outfielders.

Where is the Tiger PR department? Is there no creativity in the Detroit front office? Do I have to sit out here in Arizona and come up with marketing ideas for these guys? Too busy pouring over advanced game analytics is my guess.

Here you go Avila.....A Tyler Collins bobble-head! With extended MIDDLE FINGER! Use it as a give away at a game or as an expensive souvenir sold at the park. A sure fire hit with the kids. Might be a great item for a free give-away for a SUNDAY home game!

I'm also working on an animated toy that has a pitcher throwing a pitch and his arm falling off in front of him. Maybe have the arm flop around a little? I can see a line of toys like that! :)

PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
Detroit Tigers
Justin Verlander (1-2, 5.79 ERA)

Oakland Athletics
Sonny Gray (3-1, 2.73 ERA)

Justin Verlander has a 9-6 career record against Oakland with a 2.51 ERA during the regular season. That's his second-best ERA against American League teams.

--Sonny Gray has a 1-0 career record with a 2.57 ERA against the Tigers during the regular season.

Verlander has 3 QS in his 4 starts, and could easily be 3-1 despite the elevated ERA. K-Rod blew a 3-run lead in the season opener to cost JV one win, and the hitting failed him when went 7 strong and lost to Cleveland 2-1. The 5.79 ERA is mainly the result of his one truly horrible start.

That said, Sonny Gray is 4-for-4 in QS this season. Let's hope the Tiger bats wake the hell up tonight.

I have been trying to hold my tongue for awhile but this team is just mediocre and the starters are not performing and while that is not a huge a reflection on the manager what the hell has the pitching coach done? He pretty much has done nothing and Pelfrey has looked worse than even his shitty career average. Another thing I notice is a lack of leadership, guys like Collins are evidence of this. I also have to mention how awful the baserunning has been since Ausmus has been here. You cannot just blame the players for that because the CS ratio was MUCH better when Leyland was here. Finally the move with Pelfrey last night was pathetic, why even stretch him out to 7 innings? I really think a change is in order, the SP has been worse and you still see ridiculous mistakes on the field and basepathcs. I am not talking about hitting either, this is simple shit you did not see under Leyland along with the shitty pitching magement.

And Upton for being such garbage still gets to bat 5th.

My guess on that one is that the bullpen has been overused with the string of garbage outings by our starters, and there is no day off this week. So Ausmus was hoping to avoid using the bullpen any more than he absolutely had to. I agree though, you got 6 out of Pelfrey, and sending him out for the 7th was like walking on Lake St. Clair ice in April and hoping you don't fall through.

I will be sad to see the "Flipper" go. I doubt we ever see him again. (A perfectly good marketing idea shot to hell! :( )

I agree, the Tigers seem boring. Maybe we can chalk it up to a slow beginning, but how much longer until a change is needed. Hovering below .500 is unacceptable for a team paying the luxury tax. Come on Tigers wake the "F" up!!

Teams that AREN'T boring are those with young, up and coming stars....or at least with young players who might become stars. Detroit has no such animal on its team. Even Castellanos and Iglesias seem to be past the "up and coming" stage. Yes....Detroit has some good players in Cabrera, JD Martinez, Zimmermann, and maybe VMart, Kinsler and Upton. But they are not colorful players. JV ''could'' be if he'd parade Kate up and down the dugout.....but the team does kind of reek of blandness. Old will do that. Nothing exciting and new....just same old stuff, even if it is good at times.
