Dude
Crap. Romine got an infield single. Now Ausmus will play him everyday for a week.
I thought that last year.Really wasn't Clark's fault....but he won't be back next year as 3b coach.
He put up the stop first. It wasn't Clark's fault he was waving the runner in the runner stopped. ...
And it couldn't come at a better time....One encouraging thing from the loss: Sanchez looked really good, and is starting to look like he can be a plus in the rotation again. 9 ER in his last 4 outings, for a very respectable 3.12 ERA, and he's lasted at least 6 innings in all four starts.
Fulmer: 51 games left. Equates to about 10 starts per starting pitcher. I think if they can limit Fulmer to a maximum of 7 starts....he could finish the season. His pitch counts are low which helps. He has 119 innings going into today....if he averages 7 innings a start, that would total 168, which is not a major jump from last years 125. AND it may let him start a post season game.
He'll go way over that if this team is going to make the playoffs without him going to the bullpen for awhile.Because his pitches-per-inning are low, I think 168 IP is a reasonable ceiling.
I think Houston would block him. (If not another team that's out of it.)While they are out on the West Coast, Detroit might want to check out Danny Valencia of the A's. He can play 3b (not real well, but Tiger fans are use to that) as well as 1b and corner outfield spots. He is hitting .293 with 14 homers....so his chance of getting through waivers are slim. Oakland would like to move him as they have replaced him at 3b with a young prospect and are using Valencia as a utility player now. He has one more year of control after this year. (He is making a little over $3mil this year) But...he has been labeled as NOT a good clubhouse guy...something you don't hear often.

Then there's the playoffs...
(JV went over 200 as a rookie, in the regular season.)

They can send that Bregman kid down if they need to. (May have sent him down already, I haven't paid attention. Figured he was up showcase leading up to the deadline. Showcase didn't help his value.)
I don't disagree with you. Just don't see them making the playoffs with a six man rotation and no Boyd, Norris or Fulmer in the bullpen down the stretch.JV pitched 129 in 2005 - all but 11 in the minors. Then he pitched 186 in 2006. + 20 innings in post season. I would hate to see Fulmer go that high. Verlander had recent college work on his side.
If they hold Fulmer to less than 170 during the regular season, Detroit would at least have the option of pitching him in the post season. Of course, if you hold him back - they might not see the post season! Tough call.
If we pass them in the standings I wouldn't doubt it.Cleveland might even block him and find a spot for him....especially if Brantley is coming back soon.
