And @Voltaire26....why don't YOU speak up and tell us YOUR reasons for wanting Ausmus fired. I asked you once but you scurried away. Perhaps you could ask Omar for help. I think your pal Viceroy was posting.....if he is still here, maybe he can give you some backbone?

If you put everything I know into a thimble, you would still have room for your thumb. I thought that Matt Millen was a great choice for the Lions, I was very happy with Rich Rod as coach of the Wolverines and I was very disappointed to have to settle for Barry Sanders as the 3rd pick in the draft. Unlike you, I do not know everything, nor am I an antagonist. I do know that it is more difficult to fire the entire team, than the manager. The Tigers are not preforming at the level they should (for a team with a luxury tax). Furthermore, if I was an owner (other than the Tigers), I would take a chance on Ausmus. The Tigers are built (or paid) to win now. Your pretty lonely without Vice, for that I feel sorry for you. Hence, my need to respond.

Nick Castellanos will bat fourth and Victor Martinez will be available as a pinch hitter Monday night in the series opener between the Detroit Tigers and the Washington Nationals.

There is no designated hitter in the interleague road series for the Tigers, so manager Brad Ausmus plans to give Miguel Cabrera, Castellanos and Martinez each one start off.

Detroit Tigers
1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
2. J.D. Martinez, RF
3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
4. Nick Castellanos, 3B
5. Justin Upton, LF
6. James McCann, C
7. Anthony Gose, CF
8. Jose Iglesias, SS
9. Anibal Sanchez, P

Voltaire...YOU stated you felt Ausmus should be fired. (Do I need to find the post?). I asked you if you could tell me REASONS WHY you wanted him fired. Your above post really leaves me without an answer. The Tigers are under performing? Is that your answer? I suppose they are. But a lot of teams are - and managers are NOT being fired. So, AGAIN, I ask you....are there specific reasons Ausmus should be fired, in your view? AND, do you feel a new manager is the answer to solving the problems this team currently is experiencing?
BTW...I don't recall asking about Matt Millen, Barry Sanders, Rich Rod, Bobo Brazil, or Scrooge McDuck....so let's try to stay focused if you bother to attempt an answer.

And as for me knowing everything....I'm sorry...but it is a cross I bear, sometimes reluctantly.

Cabrera probably rests one of the three games. Career marks aside, it's tough to bench your hottest hitter (Castellanos).
I wouldn't be surprised if he sits twice tbh.

And I agree, it's Nicky C that should start all three.

Teams quite often fire managers because they are underperforming or they have lost control of the team. We are not in the locker room or on the field.

No we are not in the locker room or field. Nor were we there when Leyland was the manager.

I don't really care if they fire Ausmus or not. I know that if the Tigers don't win for the next guy, the Tiger fans will blame him and want him fired, etc, etc, etc. Most fans that yell to fire the manager are clueless and have no idea what they want. Many will also be the first to yell, "We should have kept so and so!".

So if for some reason Ausmus has caused the players to be depressed, lose focus, or damaged their skill set...I guess he should get canned. I hope Legendary Lloyd or Big Gene can right the ship.

Castellanos has been great at bat, no doubt he is the worst defensive 3rd baseman in the league though

Going after Upton over Cespedes was the right call. Look at him with the Mets. NJ Avila.

Was it Avila's call or the Illitch's?

BOth have been bad the last two years along with DD. When the Tigers were trash in 2003, they had the chance to build it up like the Cubs did, but they chose to get free agents which worked. But one could imagine if they were better at drafting and developing talent whilst keeping it like the Cubs will along with getting the occasional Free Agent.

And look no further than the current Red Wings to see Illitch's faults(Holland too)

The Tigers had great success after 2004. They had a good Playoff rounds...... you can't argue with the success of the Red Wings on the way Holland has built that team up over the years. 25 years in a row in the playoffs.
Are they going to be down years?Yes every team has them.

What I'm saying is they had a chance to have more longevity if they developed the farm. I believe they have been just treading water since 2013.

Tigers have not been treading water. Since 2012, when they decided to sign Fielder to that idiotic contract, they have been in a "win now mode". First under Dombrowski and now Avila (but I believe directly or indirectly driven by Illitch) they sacrificed the future to win it all at the present time. It appears to have not worked 100%. How long will they hold this course? I think it is almost over. If the Tigers bottom out again this summer....the FAMILY will bring in some financial whiz kids to try and straighten out team finances....and then - look out below.

First homer since April 27. Only 4 RBI since then too. Three in the last 2 games.
