I actually said that to a few people, iffster -- the Tigers score 2, 3, 2 against KC, and when you do that you are lucky to win 1 game. 4-for-24 this series with RISP. Another pathetic showing on the road. The offense is as much to blame as Papa G.

That said, closers who give up 2-run bombs with 2 outs and an 0-2 count on the hitter cannot be long for this league.

yes the valverde experiment is probably over. Read that JL, DD and al avila had a teleconference after the game. So my guess is with a day off something will happen on friday. maybe a trade, maybe an in house solution. Not sure. they definetly need amazing Al and Villereal to get their act together. My guess is valverde loses the closer role and benoit is the closer with Smyly the eighth inning guy. I would like to see hoffman up from toledo in place of Coke.

I think u are right adrain but I think Rondon will be in the mix.......He has pitched well in Toledo.....Hoffman has good @s in Toledo too on a bad team......sure would make sense to start blowing the pen sooner than later and first see if there is part of the solution in house..... should be worried about catcher......something might be going on with all the OFers playing well right now....Ajax comes back, Hunter around .300, Dirks playing ok, Garcia looking good, Matt T needing time, Nick C. playing great in Toledo and JL wanting to give Kelly time.....I count 7 guys for 3 position......Could there be some movement coming there?....Whats out there?

I'm guessing, but I see an outfield of Dirks, Jackson, and Hunter when AJ returns. Matt Tui getting some starts in LF and Kelly the 5th outfielder. I'd rather give Garcia a month of everyday ABs in Toledo than being the short end of a LF platoon.
adrian is Toledo's Lennerton too old (and playing the 'wrong' position) to be of any value? He hits left handed, probably a better bat than Kelly....but appears he has no versatility on defense -1B only.

Just spit balling....Nicky C..... comes up......Tui, Garcia, Porcello, Alavarez, all trade bait?

I'm seeing a big trade coming.....These guys are being used to play and hope like crap they have good outings to showcase the value.

I don't have a problem with any of them, but JL sure likes to show his cards early.

Outside of Porcello, I don't see any of these guys having any great value. Tui and Alvarez are spare parts on most teams. Garcia would be a good player to add in a package, but probably not going to land you anything significant by himself. I'm still hoping for Porcello to drop his numbers just a little more - to increase his trade value. Get his WHIP under 1.2 and an ERA under 4.50 and he'll get something of value in return.

History seems to say that few big trades are made in June.....buyers and sellers become more definite after the AS game. But - who knows.

only 7 innings is not good enough for you iffy??? 0 Rs and only 3 singles is a bad day for verlander?? what a dope you are. of course verlander could have went another inning.. but remember his last outing??? he tried to stay in..avoid Leyland.. Leyland got all mad and said it wasn't funny.

if I was verlander. I would have told Leyland take the ball and shove up your ass old man.

I will take 7 shut out innings and 3 hit ball all day from verlander.
by july Tigers will have a better bull pen..but we will be stuck with leyland

rumors... D Rod to Detroit. he has Boris as his agent,, and M.I. loves to give him money.
his contract with the brewers is about 2 million plus incentives.. the Brewers have 2 guys that can close now if they dump K Rod.

either way...we will get some new arms in the pen.

Did you grab your crotch and spit when you typed that?:laugh3: :yahoo:

And no....I would have preferred 8 innings by JV - even 9 - would have been better. But Verlander has had a pitch count problem all year. If he is your ace and are paying him $25mil....I'd like to see him in the 8th and even 9th innings. But of course....it is all Leyland's fault....for bringing in the team's closer. My problem was - if he was GOING to use Valverde, let him start the ninth inning.

I've been away for a bit. But while I was gone I noticed Garcia still isn't a center fielder, Phil Coke blows, Tram got treated like a rag doll, and Donnie Kelly wins ball games. Oh yeah, Leyland needs to hang up windbreaker as well. (I was very happy Cleaves)

You just said it......."If he is your ace".....That means he's the Tigers Ace.....Not any other ones ace.......He's a Tiger. Go on......Get. Verlander is our ACE!!!.....HE'S OURS. Go to the D-Back boards and talk about your ace and what not.

I would agree that ragging on JV for the loss is ridiculous. 7 innings of shutout ball is something you'll take every time from your ace. The 8-9 inning games are nice when they happen, but come on. JV led the league in complete games last year with 6, and he's led in IP in multiple seasons. It's not like a lot of other guys are out there tossing 8-9 innings regularly.

The Royals fought off good pitches for a lot of foul balls. They're not a great hitting team, but not a swing-and-miss team like Pittsburgh or Atlanta, either. Max only had 6 Ks on Tuesday.

The loss falls on (1) the lack of clutch hitting and (2) Valverde.

I heard a crazy stat the other day. Max Scherzer is 9-0 or whatever, and JV has never been 2-0. Isn't that crazy!?! Almost seems impossible, but its not, it's real. Dan Dickerson told me.

1. OK gang. Tigers will be hitting trade market next month. Do they go big and trade Castellanos? Do they go middle-of-road and trade Porcello. Or do they try and dump some spare parts and hope for another Fister-type deal? (Fister trades can back-fire too. Remember Jarrod Washburn?)

2. Do they move quickly or wait until after the All-Star break. More players will be available near the end of July....but perhaps waiting until then will also pit OUR minor league system, against those of other 'buying' teams.

3. Is now the time to also pick up Peralta's replacement? Or can that wait for winter?

4. Will we see the offerings of typical fans who over-rate their own players, undervalue players on other teams, and create the typical scenario where we give up 5 or 6 guys we don't want or need - for someone else's superstar?

5. Will burfboy get his short hairs yanked before the day is over?

Castellanos is the prize of the minor league system, but he's kind of a guy without a position (3B is locked up for a while and he really hasn't learned the outfield well enough yet), and there's no certainty he'll hit major league pitching like he's hit minor league pitching. Avisail Garcia looks like he can be our 4th outfielder rather quickly. I say if we can get a good closer for Castellanos, he's trade bait. But will there be any truly good closers available?

Either way, I think the team waits until mid-July. Possible scenario is bringing up Rondon again, but having Benoit close while working Rondon into the role. If that fails, we go shopping.

I doubt they make any huge trades that would require Castellanos... I predict they act fast on the closer situation and wait on the others... But what the hell do i know

I would take 7 innings of shut out ball out of my ace every time out there. There are so many other ace pitchers on other teams that are paid a ton of money and suck or are consistently injured. Verlander is a beast, hes not perfect but damn if he isn't close to it.
