I think Carlos Beltran is the next new tiger. He will sign a deal similar to the one torii hunter signed last yr. Me personally, id like to see nelson cruz. I know he's a righty, and he's pretty much HR or strike out, but damn, we could use someone like him in the lineup

Denny McLain thinks Beltran is coming also. Suppose it's better if we get him than KC. But I'd be happy to see the Royals bring him back where he started.

It really depends on whether DD places more emphasis on a power hitting LF to protect Miggy or a true leadoff hitter with some defense.

I would rather see Choo than Beltran for the simple reason of less chance of injury.

Beltran would come at a third of the money tho.

How is fat Denny doing these days? I heard he is living in Pinckney, MI and hasn't been in jail for almost 2 years.

When the off-season started, I thought that the only thing that DD would do was increase the talent in our bullpen. I thought the rest of our team was good. I'm not sure I like what is going on here

So good question.....do the Tigers sign the long contract (Choo) or the short one (Beltran)? From what I see so far, a Beltran signing may be more likely. A two year deal would mean Beltran would be gone just as Cabrera's BIG contract would begin (maybe).

the next move should be a setup guy. Either resign benoit or take a go at Andrew bailey who was non tendered by the red sox yesterday.

I like Benoit but not at $8MM per. I might lean toward Edward Mujica or the above mentioned Bailey.

I'd rather KC have Beltran. Like you said, he's risky(They've offered him 3 years 48 mil). Im all about Choo. Until he signs with someone else, he's my guy. I got what I wanted in Ausmus, Choo coming to Detroit would mean Im exempt from complaining.

Bailey is an injury risk for sure. Would his history drop his asking price significantly?

Beltran want s to win so if we matched KC, he would come to DTW. I agree with you about Choo. A true leadoff hitter would be a dream. his defense scares me, though.
Regardless of the moves the Tigers make, with JV, Max, Miggy, and Sanchez on the team the Tigers will be favorites to win the division.

CBS has Detroit's 2014 salary as $150 million after the Nathan signing....about the same as last years. (That includes guesses at arbitration salaries, too) NOW we will see if Illitch is still ''all in'' for the near future. Unless DD makes another trade to cut salary, the Tigers could be pushing $170 million.

(Was anyone here bitching loudly when the Yankees were spending like crazy a few years ago?)

Reports that we got nathan for 20 mil over 2 yrs. Thats a pretty good deal, i think it was reported that he wanted around 27-28 mil

DD is building something here. We should wait till we see the finished product. He must have some more cards to play......

if the tigers were content to be at 150 mil last season there is no reason with the extra 25 mil from TV to go up 175 mil. gonna lose the same amount of $$. As for the FA in left field I would go with Choo over beltran. I would rather not give up a first round pick, but if it has to be done a 30 year old player (choo) a better use of a pick than a 36 year old (beltran). Hunter and martinez ( 16 and 12 mil) come off the booksaftr this season. So they could let one of them walk and replace them with either Collins or Fields.

This is not a reduction in payroll IMO but rather a change to a more athletic and defensive team. The no defensive, o speed approach did not bring a title so a different approach is coming. We now see why JL stepped down.

Yes, given his age, I did not want to see a deal any longer than two years for Nathan. And $10 mill per season is fine.

I think Tiger fans better give up on Choo. If reports that Ellsbury got $153MM from the Yankees, that would put Choo around $20MM/yr for 6+ years . Likely too rich for the Tigers.

Yankees included an option for an 8th year. Beltran's price went up as well as Choo's. Detroit is saying they are still aiming at Choo. If I'm Ilitch (and want Cabrera past 2015)....I go with Beltran on a shorter deal.
