Looks like Dirks is starting the fill in for Jackson just fine.

I'd bet a dollar that Muzz will put his love for Boesch into the past and hop aboard the Dirks bandwagon.

Now if Dirks can steal a few bases too....

In all fairness, Muzz has been talking up Dirks for a while now.

I've always talked up Dirks, he's just fishing......Andy is a ball player. I love seeing him play as much I as I love Boesch's swing.

Anyone else think JL should start playing Avila less and Pena more? I wonder if the starting pitchers prefer Avila?

In the win; nice to see V-Mart go deep, Dirks more than fill in for Jackson, and another quality start. But mostly just thankful Houston is now in the AL.

Oh to be in the AL West.... The Mighty Mariners get Houston and The California Angeles of Anaheim outside Los Angeles 25% of the time. Must be nice.

Dirks is red hot. Avg up to 260. Guess he will fill in for ajax just fine.

Yes avila needs to sit more. Guy had one good year and now hes back to the old avila. Hes always 0-2 in the count. Ive never seen him even make contact vs a lefty i dont think. Anyone think he needs a lighter bat? Its a K most of the time or a ground out to 2nd. I understand everyone in the lineup cant hit, but he could do the little things. Give me a catcher who can bunt, fly out w/ runner on 3rd less than 2, or just have a quality out. Move runners along. Avila does none of that. Once every couple weeks he will hit a mammoth HR, then he will go 5 games without a hit.

Avila and adam dunn are starting to resemble one another.

I feel like im stuck watching a stale stand up comedy act from the 80's. boy does it get old quick. How many times can you use the same type jokes?

I noticed on cbs that yankee fans were mad boesch got sent down instead of francisco. Some believed boesch was part of their future and should stay up.....guess muzz wasnt the only boesch fan out there.

I'm afraid to complain about Lil' Al too much anymore. Mostly since his heir apparent his hitting .208 with 1 RBI down in Lakeland. Bryan Pena getting hurt scares me even more.

:bounce:Pulling the short hairs, cleaves?

As for catching option. If you look around the league there are some awful numbers being put up, offensively, by catchers. The Dodgers' backup catchers are batting .118 and .045 respectively. Perhaps the best bet is to find a top of the line defensive catcher, accept that he'll be lucky to hit .220 and move on. Avila is ranked at around average defensively - not sure about Pena. Just a hunch - but I doubt any team with a good hitting catcher is going to swap them. Perhaps Detroit needs to find a young defensive oriented catcher in some team's minor league system, grab him, and hope he can handle a MLB pitching staff next year.

I said nothing about a good hitting catcher. I want a catcher who can do little things....bunt....sac fly.....make contact when needed.....be able to just make contact vs a lefty.......ill take a defensive catcher who bats 230 but can make the most of his AB's.....avila steps into the batters box and the next thing you know, its an 0-2 count.

I actually dont mind pena at all.....would like to see him and avila split playing time 50/50.

Kelly and Ramon rounding out the order tonight I see. Dougie hopefully is rested and ready after that short start against the Nats. Thanks for the lineup HAmmer!
