Now that's an overrated QB.I wouldn't be shocked if Kyler Murray pulls the same numbers and makes 400 million

The Saints need to go ahead and write this year off. The should jettison what salaries they can and collect draft picks. Then they can climb out of the salary cap hell that they have been in for years. They are a good organization that sorely needs a reset.
The numbers you speak of are just a product of modern football that’s pass heavy. Carr is the epitome of “just a guy.”Carr has metrics that puts him up there with the best. Carr had no weapons in NO. Olave is not an ASB or AB. And even if he does have a bounce back year (by some odd process) it won't stick because he doesn't have the physicality of a number one receiver. None of those receivers are a number one on a good offense. The Saints didn't get blown out by any team last year with Carr starting.
He's gone now and I will root for him when he unretires.
They've been a mid team deluding themselves into thinking they're Super Bowl contenders. The Saints have needed to write off the last few years...

MVS was signed off the scrap heap and had 17 catches for 385 yards (22.6ypc) with 4 TD's in 8 games. Not great but given what they had at QB? Not bad either.Carr has metrics that puts him up there with the best. Carr had no weapons in NO. Olave is not an ASB or AB. This makes no sense. Carr is still good enough to play. Why would he retire over surgery.
it all pays the same.

The fact remains though that the Saints weren’t going to be a contender with Carr and he was just an adequate but not top tier QB. The Saints need a new franchise QB and they’ll likely get one in next year’s draft, unless Shough surprises everyone and becomes their QB. But yeah the Saints will likely suck moose ass this year, a strong contender for the NFL’s worst team. The Saints were 5-5 when Carr started last season. 0-7 when he didn't.
Let that sink in for a minute or 2.
Never said they would be a "contender" with him. Since, he was going to miss all of the season anyway....The fact remains though that the Saints weren’t going to be a contender with Carr and he was just an adequate but not top tier QB. I’m just pointing out I think parting ways with Carr is best for the Saints in the long run, because now they’ll get a high draft pick and likely use it on a franchise QB, and if that QB is good then they’ll be in much better shape. Carr is very average and adequate, he can keep a team afloat so they don’t suck but he’s never going to lead a team on a playoff run.Never said they would be a "contender" with him. I think Olave is a #1 receiver as long as he stays healthy, he had over 1000 yards in his first two seasons, injuries derailed him last season and he only played in 8 games. But yeah the Saints could use some help at receiver. I agree the Saints O is coming along and if you guys get a strong franchise QB you guys will be in pretty good shape on O. The D is more of a concern for the Saints IMO, the edge rush is shaky and your best LB in Davis is aging. The offense is coming along. Need a franchise QB as you said but drafting OL in round 1 the last 2 seasons is a start. Also eventually need another WR as I don't think Olave s truly a 1
A few seasons back they had a good defense....I think Olave is a #1 receiver as long as he stays healthy, he had over 1000 yards in his first two seasons, injuries derailed him last season and he only played in 8 games. Their D looks iffy right now, like I say the edge rush in particular is shaky, they’ll need Chase Young to produce for them and he has been a bust overall so far in his career, Saints are his 3rd team in his 5 year career. Cameron Jordan is old and not as productive now and Carl Granderson is their only other proven edge rusher. Looks like a weak pass rush overall, and at LB Davis is aging, he’s been very good for a long time but depth is an issue at the position. And at corner, they are pretty young with Adebo and Lattimore gone now. The Saints D just looks shaky to me, that combined with the QB situation and lack of standout players on O and I think the Saints are a contender for the worst team in the NFL this year.A few seasons back they had a good defense....
Last season I think they were hit hard by injuries.
The Titans and Panthers still going to be pretty bad.
