I didn't see a thread on this yet. 3 year deal worth $42M, $18M guaranteed. He's 32 years old, and only played 4 games last year due to an injured foot. Are we liking this deal, or no?

We discussed him in the 2025 season thread.

Comes down to what does he has left in the tank, can the old guy stay healthy, how much has the injury effected him. Sort of pricey considering the risk, but a big name and if can still play at a high level, stay healthy, would be a plus.

I don't mind the signing. If it's only $18M guaranteed that prob. means you can ditch him next year and take a $12M dead cap if he doesn't return to form. He had a foot injury but assuming if he signed with us it's been rested and he's ready to play.

Lawrence is an elite EDGE run defender and actually started out decently until he got injured. I don't expect Lawrence to be getting more than 40-50 snaps per, so he'll be rotational with Mafe/Hall/Nwosu which is perfectly fine and 100% needed. On run downs Lawrence will be critical and along with Ernest Jones will make Seattle very difficult to run against which is what Mac wants to do. It negates us having to go for an early EDGE in the draft for at least this year, which is important because we need to address safety (Macs 3 safety system), OG/OT/possibly Center, and WR in the earlier rounds.

He's 33, so it's hardly a long term solution.. but Lawrence is VASTLY better in the short term (next year or two) than Dre'Mont Jones which was a colossal failure of a signing.

I know we missed out on Fries, but frankly this free agent class wasn't really that great in terms of offensive lineman. The draft definitely stacks up better for IOL and right tackle, so perhaps that's where we're going.

And to add, there's definitely risk with this move... it does help Durde coached him in Dallas (our DC) so Lawrence is coming into a familiar scheme and has a familiar face/coach - might have been Durde that really pushed for Lawrence. God knows outside of Parsons that Dallas D is trash tier.

Anyway, I'd have to see the full contract details but if it's $18M and UP TO $42M than I can't be too negative about it. It's a bit of a patch job for now, but we have other big needs to address in this draft, so crossing one off the list for this year is good.

Initial reaction. C grade. If you get 2023 Lawrence (again 2024 was a foot injury) than it's an A+ signing, easily. But, there's a chance you get a completely different player all together given that was 2 years ago, in which case it could be an F. But again, depends on the contract.. if he busts this year and you can let him walk for let's say $12M, meh.. whatever.

Dre'mont Jones was a bust. IF Nwosu can actually see the field again... keeping Mafe/Hall rotated will be critical as I believe they were way overused (just due to necessity with Nwosu out again) last year which resulted in some production decline as the season went on. I hope he does work out in the short term because if he's even 80% of what he was in 2023, Seattle will be difficult to run against which will set us up in a lot of longer 3rd downs on D where Hall and Macs scheme will allow us to thrive.

End of day we have cap to spend... gotta spend it to remain competitive, and this is not sinking us in the future. We're taking nearly $70M of dead cap this year to clean things up, and are not handing out overbloated long term contracts at the moment...

Jones signed a 1 year $10M deal with the Titans btw... I'll take Lawrence (even at 33) any day over Jones for 2025. That guy was beyond useless in run defense and his pass rush isn't any better than what Lawrence did.

DLaw is Warrior, great run defender and a good pass rush. If he's healthy yall will be glad to have him

I mean if you get 2023 Lawrence... it's a steal. If you don't... well, hopefully you get 80% of what he was and you can rotate him with Mafe/Hall/Nwosu to keep him fresh at his age. If you even get 80% Lawrence (let's say 100% if you limit his snaps to 40 or so), Seattle will be very difficult to run the ball against with Jones coming back.

Durde is also with Seattle now, so Lawrence will have a familiar face in the coaching staff. And Mafe/Hall (especially Hall) could use some mentoring at EDGE.

Whatever, it's better than Dre'mont Jones... what a colossal failure that signing was. And we're still paying more dead cap for him this year than if we flat out cut Lawrence (haven't seen the contract, but $18M guaranteed) after 2025 lol.

Man, DLaw will play hurt. When he is healthy he is still a monster though. You aren't running on him. Strong as a bull

Yah. I can't fault Seattle for it. It's risky - 33 years old.. but I heard Seattle fans (myself included) complaining about fixing our run D for YEARS. Dre'Mont Jones didn't do F all to help that... Lawrence helps it TREMENDOUSLY. Again, in theory Seattle should be very hard to run against next year. That was what Mac did in Balti and getting stuck in 3rd and 6+ situation against his scheming is what made him as a defensive playcaller dangerous.

Now, UK Cowboy, get some sleep and then tell Jerry Jones to trade us Parsons for a 4th rounder. Thanks! :pound:

Parsons would prob. fetch like 3 1st rounders at the moment, lol. I bet the Cowboys let Lawrence walk because Parsons is gonna get some $35-40M per contract.. they gotta keep some cap for him - even if rollover.

Yeah, but you know, his cap hit will just go down after they resign him, at least this year. I think the $60M for Dak has them cutting any salary they can live without. We have Micah, Sam Williams coming back from injury and Kneeland who played well as a rookie at DE. Strictly a price deal. DLaw can still play. He's been hurt, he is definitely not washed
