Well, yeah, you would kind of expect that from a guy that had 140% more PAs as DH than Thome.

Thome could play competent defense, so he spent most of his career in the field, as opposed to Ortiz, who has been a DH for almost 90% of his PAs.

After considering this a little, I'm not to sure that David Ortiz has been the best DH of all time. Literally every player in the majors is capable of playing DH. That is not the case with the other positions. Seems like every hitter in baseball should be in the conversation of who is the best DH.

Good. I don't care about the steroid talk or none of that, but he is the biggest crybaby in the game.

Hell, just this year, there was a pitch down the middle at the knees that was called a strike on what Ortiz thought was ball 4, then he got a single two pitches later and still decides to bitch at the umpire for calling a strike a strike.

Second biggest crybaby that is.

Machado's whole "you tagged me too hard" is kind of hard to top.

Then the throwing his bat at Donaldson.

I don't even know if he was the best DH of all time... Thome had over 800 DH games, and he was significantly better...

No

Edgar Martinez was better than Ortiz as well...

Strike two

Edgar was a nice little singles hitter for sure.

baseballs are round, and have stitching.

Napoli is/was awful. I mean awful as in he couldn't beat me out to play 1st base on my softball team.

I do agree that Ortiz was never as bad defensively as most portrayed him. Boston didn't need a 1st baseman when he arrived and he settled into his niche nicely.

It's called "passion". If those great Braves teams of the 90's had any they might have a few more baubles in their trophy case.

Just sayin............

They got one. Given the current state of the team, I'd love a first round playoff exit about now.

I would have liked to see them win a couple more, but even though the manager (Bobby Cox) was never short on passion it always seemed like some of the star players were a bit too business-like.

Can't win em all.

1991 was the worst to first team, and they shocked the world just getting their and they lost in 7 games to the Twins in what a lot of people consider to be the best World Series of all time.

In 1992, we lost to the Blue Jays, but it took a slide by Sid Bream, who might have been the slowest player in the Majors, and a 32 hop throw to the plate from Barry Bonds just to get them there.

And after the win in 95, we sorta ran into a Yankees dynasty.

if only this clown had passion:suds:

Five general managers told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that they wouldn't trade for Hanley Ramirez even if the Red Sox agreed to cover half of his remaining salary.

Ramirez was a total bust this year, hitting .249 with 19 homers while playing horrendous defense in left field. With three years and $66 million left on his contract, the Red Sox are going to have a tough time moving him. David Ortiz has decided to retire after next year, which could open the door for Ramirez to DH full time beginning in 2017. He'll start next season at first base.
