It was a marginal call that could've easily gone either way. Fraser would've been saying it was a good goal if the goal had been allowed in the game and Habs fans were the ones screaming foul. He's just sticking up for his referee fraternity.

Honestly, though, I didn't bring up the Datsyuk no-goal to start a bitch-thread about the call; I brought up the play to celebrate the Magician's handiwork. That shit was amazing!

If you read his column regularly, you'll see he actually does call out the on-ice officials plenty when he thinks they got the call wrong.

It's too bad the ref waiving the goal off wasn't Dan O'Halloran.

Oh, whew... I assumed from the thread title we had another Varlamov situation on our hand here. I forgot this isn't the NFL.

I've never seen Crosby put the velocity on his backhand that Datsyuk demonstrated last night. I could see Crosby potting a goal like that, but with a slower more fluttery backhand shot.

Sadly, I don't see much of Tavares in action...mainly game highlights. Among those highlights, I don't recall ever seeing him pot a filthy backhand shot in a game situation. If you've got an example of a wicked Tavares backhand, please share it.

Kane I could see successfully pulling off what Datsyuk did last night... There's no denying the dude's got handles, moves, elite offensive awareness and a wicked backhand.

Uhhhh, I'm thinking you don't watch Sid play often. "Fluttery" isn't a word used to describe his backhand too often. There's a reason the guy plays with a straight blade. If we're ranking best back-handers these two are #1-2

In case you missed it, in last night's game against the Habs, Pavel Datsyuk carried the puck into the offensive zone along the right boards. He deked around a defender and cut into the high slot. He did a reverse 180° and with his back to the goal whipped an insanely precise backhand shot over Carey Price's left shoulder and into the top right corner of the net with the wicked speed of a Chara slapshot.

Seriously, what other players in the world could make that play? What other players in the world have a backhand shot that lethal?

Datsyuk is just plain filthy. I love to watch him play. Above all, his creativity and the way he thinks when he has the puck is jaw dropping. He will end up being one of my all time favorite players just because of his pure puck genius.

I have always complemented Syd on his back hand. You can ask my fellow co-workers who are 3 river phanatics. Now they come to the Kool-Aid cooler talking about the finer hockey things post Penguins games. The back hand is one of the finer arts in hockey that has been lost with the exception of a few.
