With the 31st pick of the 2013 draft, the 49ers select a safety. With the 34th pick of the 2013 draft, 49ers select another safety... oh man. Not really. Knew this was happening, but it feels a little naked right now in safetyland.

I said to some friends yesterday that if we can land Dorsey, Landry and a CB what a successfull FA period for us. We will continue to draft great with having one of the best front offices in the NFL but I really want Landry, he is only 28 and just went to the pro bowl and maybe the hardest hitter pound for pound in the NFL

I find it hard to believe that Landry is not at the very least solid in coverage yet makes it to the Pro Bowl. I would like us to draft a ballhawking FS in the mid rounds, sign Landry, then slide Landry to SS after Whitner's contract is up. We found Goldson in the 4th and it was obvious to all paying attention that he was a ballhawk from the jump. I think we need a better pass rush consistently, which would help our secondary out tremendously.

hard hitting is very overrated in the nfl these days. the penalties, fines, and suspensions are just going to get worse and the ball-hawking safeties will become a lot more valuable than the enforcers. Yes, I know there are instances where the gator arms come out bc receivers are afraid to get hit (Goldson caused a couple of these this year) but this is going to occur less and less as receivers become increasingly protected. With this in mind, I think Landry is just a little below average and should be paid accordingly. He also should be used as a SS since his coverage skills aren't the greatest and we should cut Whitner. I'd like to see Reid drafted with 1 of our first 2 picks.

I am extremely anxious about landing Sean Smith. He is the FA I have coveted the most since maybe Deion back in 94. To have our CB be smith, brown, Rogers, Culliver, and Cox would go a long way if we can get a more consistent pass rush.

Do you really think we'd keep Rogers if we got Smith? I don't see it happening without a restructuring by Carlos.

I agree that Niners need to generate more pass rush. After Justin Smith's injury, Niners had difficulty getting to the QB. Niners were not about to pay Goldson that much money. Sign Sean Smith and draft a safety.

To bad the Falcons and Saints will expose his coverage skills 4 times a year

Now he can get burned by Julio Jones and Jimmy Graham 4 times a year, like he did in the past 2 NFC championship games.

We'll definitely miss that guy but that contract's pretty freakin crazy for a safety.

What are his #'s - I can't seem to find them

Slightly bigger than the one Eric Weddle got. 5 years, $41.25 million with $22 million guaranteed.

I wouldn't want to be paying Dashon that much, and then trying to figure out how to resign Kaep, Iupati and Aldon Smith in a couple of years.

Remember when Goldson couldn't even get a job in the NFL and signed for peanuts? Wish they extended his contract back then. :(
