Congrats to Alabama.

I think this will mark the beginning of the end for Hoke.

Does Michigan have Civil Engineering as a major? If not he wasn't lying. That's what he's majoring in.

There was talk of Hand pursuing a double major.....both sports management and civil engineering.

We now know that will not be the case.

The sad thing is that I think if we were even close to living up to expectations this year (IE: rushing for positive yards in all games) that he would have picked us.

Alabama isn't a bad school, but they're not even on the same planet when it comes to academics compared to Michigan...

Neither is OSU for that matter...

I've said this before but can we please dispense of the talk of academics when it concerns 5* kids? It isn't relevant. This wasn't a slap at Michigan's academics, it was a slap in the face of Michigan Football.

Ah, from what I"m reading Hoke told Hand that majoring in engineering was a no go if he wanted to play football at Michigan...

Not sure how much truth there is to that... Do you guys have any engineering majors on your roster?

I don't think so. The only thing we really had to offer is early playing time. Saban promised him stability, coaching, and an easier pass to Sundays.

No, the backstory is that Hand fell in love with the professor of Michigan's sport's management program and said (at the time) he would only consider schools with that major.

Interesting......I heard the same thing......that based on Hand's academic background/school record, supposedly Michigan was attempting to steer Hand away from the Michigan engineering program and instead towards Sport Management.

Well he's majoring in Civil Engineering now...

I heard that as well. Basically, that there really isn't enough time to get a legit degree and play major CFB. I'm not sure how I feel about that. On the one hand, it's probably pretty accurate for most kids. ON the other hand, I don't like our football coach discouraging kids like that. We shouldn't strive to have all our players in General Studies just to give them more time to practice football (no matter how much we need it). That is, unless we actually want to just treat CFB like a career path with a very low success rate; which is true at even the best FB schools.

I think we had some of the same things to offer this season, even up to the point of the ND game. Then we've crashed like I've seen no team crash before.

I really hope the product my team puts on the field is never so bad that I become so pissed in the middle of the season that I call out an 18-year-old's degree preference. I get the recruiting love in the offseason, but there are games to be scrutinized.

This has to violate the NFL's salary cap, doesn't it?

Yeah it's getting to the point where the rest of us will just have to wait until Saban retires or keels over to win a title...

Good lord, my phone is blowing up with various notifications about this all of a sudden lol. I think ESPN, CBS and BR all hit the go button at the same time.
