I thought the reason NE won was because we brought Brandon Browner in. After all he has more rings than Bevis.

Of course he helped Brady throw those 4 tds, over 70% completion rate and over 300 yards vs Seattle's D.

Fun fact Dirt taught me

Brady last SB 4 tds 2 t.o's
Manning Bros 4 last SB's 4 tds 8 t/o's

True forgot all about him, the early dark Patriot days. Law came to mind because he was here for 3 SB wins, like some here saying Revis was the reason Pats won the SB a few years back. I had mentioned this earlier but when the pats used to practice at Bryant college in Smithfield they were right around the corner from me and used to stop by alot. Law was the only cock one and a cheap bastard to boot. He also called a friend of mine a few years ago and wanted to buy a used Crown Vic for his dad, didn't want to spend too much

Revis helped no doubt, but the Pats beat the Seahawks because it was the first SB they went to since 04 with relative good health.

Haynes and Clayborn was a pretty stout duo. Haynes was damn near as big as the linebackers in his day and he could fly and hit like a truck.

What a shame that the Sullivan family screwed up everything they touched :L

Sounds like something Larry Bird would do.

It'd be a belated Christmas miracle if Revis got anything near the $15M his contract calls for, regardless of the position he plays.

It's your opinion that he would have been more dominant in the "downfield passing" days of the 70's and 80's when there were fewer passing attempts, usually done to stretch the field and DBs had to be able to tackle on the more prevalent running plays. I don't share that opinion.

It's not opinion. It's fact. If you're the best cornerback and dominant over opposing receivers in an era where all the rules are in favour of the offense, then he'd be even more dominant over opposing receivers in an era where rules are more in favour of the defense. The further back you go, 40 odd years, the more he'd lock down any receiver. Revis was a 4.3 guy who can make tackles, so lets not suggest that he couldn't keep up with wideouts or take down backs and such.

Let me ask you this though, how come "in this pass happy era" he has a meager 28 career INTs? More opportunities equals more results, no? Hell, there at least 3 linebackers who have more career INTs than he does.

Uuuhh, because teams/QB's rarely threw in his direction? Even when he shadowed the best receivers, they generally stayed away from him? He had 0 ints in 2010, but was still first team All Pro, and that wasn't some vote on name recognition. That was at the height of his ability when few if anyone doubted who the best CB in football was.

Whether you like it or not, Revis pre-ACL can make a case as one of the best ever, and certainly was THE best of his era.

You're telling me that QB's didn't know who Night Train Lane, Charles Woodson, Dick Lebeau, Willie Brown, Ty Law etc were so they tossed the ball their way indiscriminately? :L

And yes, his 2010 All-Pro slot was pure reputation.

Those guys were great, throw in Lott and Sanders too imo, 2 SF players that were better than Revis

I hope not, he owns a bunch of dealerships in Frenchlick

Larry had quite the reputation as a stingy mofo. I can't say I know about it personally, but there's been a lot of stories about him being a cheap bastid written over the years.

:noidea:

Move him to safety and see what happens? Not much else can go wrong for the Jets at this point, well besides their own incompetence. Of course Revis would never agree to a restructure to make that financially rational, but...

Not to mention that all those guys and a ton more would gladly do something Revis was never known for, get down in box and hit somebody.

Lott wouldn't just hit somebody, but he would ring their bell. He would hit somebody, a minute later he is getting up, 5 min later the receiver is waking up. That was the only downfall with Sanders but he was a ball hawk and also a great kickoff returner. Deion saw the endzone more than the receivers he was covering, pick 6 specialist

Not a very physical guy during his career. I don't think safety is the place to hide him.

If the Jets have any leverage (I don't know the details) they will do everything in their power to get his fat ass into proper condition so they can get their money's worth out of his contract.

True dat. Sanders was never one of my favorites, but he is probably the best cover corner in the last 30 years.

That was Ty Law's prob at the end too. Fucker put on like 30 pounds and would woddle down the field

Patrick Peterson is the closest comparison to him right now. Rod Woodson was also a special CB

No. I'm telling you that you should probably stop talkin' outta yer ass. In 2013, Richard Sherman was one of the least targeted corners and led the NFL in interceptions. It's an extreme example that shows you simply can't go by ints. Revis had 5 or 6 ints in years around 2010.

It's all irrelevant. Revis was the best cornerback in football, the best of his generation and doesn't have to play another down....he's a lock for the HOF.
