Slightly more guaranteed, but less per year. This makes the 3rd DT making over 14 million annually. I wonder if DT is just becoming a money position, or if the 3 big ones just got paid and it will even out now.

If Star, Poe, or Shariff Floyd get big money like that as well it will look worse for Mayhew in my opinion. It would mean he missed the curve on where pay for DT was going.

One of the most important positions in football if you like stopping the run. Congrats to Mr. Dareus on his new contract.

His was actually quite a bit less than Suh's deal. Multiple outlets are including his remaining salary as new money, which is inflating his numbers.

Still a big-money deal, but no other team is foolish enough to pay a DT top QB money besides Miami...

Looks like the number for new money is 95 million over 6, still a huge deal. He got 42.9 for signing his name, not a bad day for him

I think Dareus's contract is a little better representation of what the top of the DT market should look like. With the salary cap where it is today, and as rapidly as it is climbing, $14 million per season isn't unreasonable, imo, for a top DT.

Teams like Miami who are more concerned with putting asses in the seats and selling merch than they are about winning games will always be the ones tossing out market-setting deals. Conversely, good teams sit back and watch and laugh as they continue to try to balance out their cap spending to actually field a good team, rather than just parading around the new super star player they bought.

Why wouldn't he holdout for Suh money? He has been more productive than Suh since he came into the league -- Darius has more tackles and more sacks than Suh over the last 4 years.

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a DT, but I'm fine seeing other teams do so.

Whoa now! Are you saying that Dareus leads all DTs in sacks and tackles over the last 4 years, then?!

No. Geno Atkins has the most sacks since 2011 for a DT. Dareus is 2nd. I'm not sure where they rank on tackles, just know Dareus has around 35 more tackles over the last 4 years.

It's called marketing. When Suh was a FA, they showed how he led all DTs over 5 years. Now with Dateus, it's 4 years. Both incredibly impressive eras of dominance. When you can stop the run, you have a chance to beat anyone.

Bills are smart.

Its a passing league. Seahawks got to the SB 2 years in a row with the best Pass defense in the league. They were not bad against the run, but they were not the best by any means.

Yeah they are- they got a Suh-caliber DT for a lot less money than the Dolphins had to shell out...

They also had the best running game in the league.

Incorrect. Dareus actually received more guaranteed money than Suh.

Buffalo Bills sign Marcell Dareus to massive extension

Marcell Dareus gets $60 million guaranteed, most to non-QB in NFL

The $15.4 million average annual value of Dareus' contract is less than the $19 million per season that defensive tackle Ndamukong Suhwill receive from the Miami Dolphins over his six-year, $114 million deal signed in March. But Dareus will receive more guaranteed money than Suh, who received $59.96 million guaranteed from the Dolphins.

Dareus also received a whopping 42 million at signing. Damn near half as much as Suh's 25 million.

But I won't play armchair GM and call it a bad move. The Bills have to do what they have to do to in hopes of competing w New England and Miami. Gotta keep your best drafted studs at any cost. Bills know that.
