Looks like Dak ain't gonna get a $30 Million contract.

Cowboys are not going to be bullied into overpaying someone whose won 1 playoff game.

I don't think this changes the contract offer. If it does anything it keeps Jerry from caving to Daks 4 year demand.

I believe there are percentage rules keeping teams from over stacking the final year, but if the contract has 50M in year 5, I can see Dak complaining however if year 5 looks to be a must cut for cap purposes then Dak should just sign, as it gives him his 4 year deal he wants.
right, they would need to get there slowly, "20,30,40,50" not "20, 20,20,80". My wording was wrong :thumb:

That's funny about the cut year making it his 4 year deal, but the problem there is knocking $50M off a 5 year $35M per deal makes it a 4 year $31M deal and still hits us with dead money in year 5.

I hope they just get a deal done now that the draft is over. Maybe in a couple of weeks since Dak just lost his brother. The two cases are very different, but just like Zeke last year the longer this drags on the more it is going to make people resent Dak and the more they are going to (and if within reason rightly so) jump on him for any bad performances once the season starts.

That's not even close to the scenario

I'm haven't been nor am I worried about Daks contract getting done. I believe it will get done, but if not I fully believe he'll sign and play on the tag. Dak won't miss any mandatory practice or games.

I think he will get his 4 years if he really wants it. But he isn't going to get everything he wants and he shouldn't, so what is he going to give up to get it? I also suspect he is using the 4 years as a bargaining chip because he knows the team wants 5, so maybe the more accurate way to state it is what more can he get out of the team to go with 5 years so everyone wins? Clearly this is about nothing but money for Dak so what will it take? Even if you believe the "story" about betting on himself for his next deal that is based on money and more money in the future, nothing else. If he thinks he can get a bigger deal in 4 years, then with inflation he should get an even bigger one in 5 :noidea:

But this is a different year. If he misses the virtual sessions in a year where we are implementing a new offense it will be an issue. He can't stroll in the week of the first game and lead this team. Plus, I'm not 100% sure he will play on the tag. I hope he will, but I suspect even if he will it will be at the last minute and at that point a lot of the damage will already be done.

Dak will get a fair contract in line with what other top QB's make. Of course, signing Dalton gives the Cowboys more leverage.

All I know is if Jerry gives into 4 years Dak has to take a lower average salary. Give him 32 or 33 along with no franchise tag and draft a QB in 2022.

See how much Dak is willing to bet on himself.

Fair, but I just think he'll be there. However if not let it be known that if Dalton shows he's can be the starter he will have every opportunity to be so, and every day Dak misses only helps cement Dalton as the starter.

if nothing else, we'll see how Dak responses to the pressure. This fan base has always loved the back up with the exception of Captain America.

Overreaction remains alive and well with all things Dallas Cowboys QB

I think dak nee ds to stop listening to his agent and sign. It is a good offer

Cowboys very shrewd with this signing. If the season is shortened and dak holds out the season likely over with Cooper Rush as Qb. Dalton could start and maybe be a reliable game manager

That is exactly the key. Our season is now not over if the two sides can't agree and Dak decides he doesn't want to play on the tag

Fair, but I just think he'll be there. .
I think he will also, but we needed to protect ourselves if he isn't. Even if it's only a 10% chance he holds out or shows up the week the season starts

No argument about the team protection. I'm just surprised Dallas went with Dalton as I didn't expect it.

Not to pretend the Bengals 7-17 record with Dalton was good the last two years, but without him it was 1-7. Not sure what that tells us if anything...

he is a quality back up for quality back up pay.
This is what I read into the signing.

I dont see this signing having anything to do with Dak or his contract crap.
if our 7th rd. pick looks like he is gonna be a quality back up we can let Dalton walk in a year.

good deal for the Cowboys.

Yeah, I don't think Jerry will cave on that. He may end up giving him upper 30's to get that extra year, but I bet its 5 years. From what I was reading, the Cowboys have given every player they have extended 5 years and don't want a precedent made of going 4

So when do we get the “How long do the Boys stick with Dak before going to Dalton” thread?
