I hope Dak does get tagged, or plays in the AFC. Dallas is a mess, let's keep it that way forcing them to cut talent or....let Dak shine in the other conference

Smarter money is on tagging dak and cutting zeke.

i dont know anything about zeke’s contract, though I do know that the cowboys got good production out of their other rb’s in at least a few games last year.

I thought you didn't want him if it was going to be at 30+
if you sign DAK , which i am not against then that is all you can do in FA other then resigning sherff and darby . thats OK if you draft well

Dallas currently stand at $18, 405,193 under the cap. Cutting Elliot really doesn't help them this year.

If the Cowboys released Elliott as a June 1 cut, there’d be no difference in their cap for 2021, but they would save $5.7 million on the 2022 cap. Elliotts replacement in 2021 would negate whatever offset saving there would be. His replacement in 2022 would negate $0.7 million of the $5.7 million.

“Ezekiel Elliott’s 2021 salary of $9.6 million already is guaranteed and carries a cap number of $13.7 million,” Watkins wrote in a recent mailbag for the Dallas Morning News. “If he’s a post-June 1 cut, the Cowboys get no savings. But if he’s a pre-June 1 cut, the Cowboys take a $10.8 million cap hit and have to deal with $24.5 million in dead money. The Cowboys are not cutting Elliott

According to this website, the saints, eagles, falcons, rams, packers, steelers and chiefs are $20 million or more over the cap.

There should be plenty of useful free agents to pick up feom these teams, including a few qb’s.
Maybe Matt Ryan. Maybe Julio Jones. Who knows.

Jared Cook, TE? Saints free agent.
Marcus Williams, S? Saints Free agent
Mike Hilton, cb? Steelers free agent
Bud Dupree, OLB? Steelers free agent
JuJu.
keanu neal, S? Falcons free agent

I think you get the point.

There's a connnection between that 15% threshhold and what's happening in the Dak Prescott negotiations. The salary cap reduction is the driving force behind Jerry Jones reluctance to sign Prescott to a contract ranging from the 38-39 to the lower 40 something million market driven deal. Jones is 78 years old and wants to win a Super-Bowl before he earns his toe tag. The very best way to do that comes with having a QB who earns the equivalent of or less than the 15% threshhold and while that won't apply to Prescott initially in subsequent years it would assuming an unprecedented rise in the 2022 cap beyond the usual 6% annual rise.

As things stand now a typical 6% increase of the current 180M cap gives gives the NFL an 190.8 cap going into 2022 a dropping a Prescott 38M deal from 21.1 % to 20%. Not much right?, but what if there's an actual post-Coivd cap boom to nearly 255M in 2022? This would be an increase of 57M over the pre-Covid cap of 198.1M or 28.8% of the pre-covid number.

Imagine this, with a never before seen boom in the salary cap in 2022 as the world turns towards more favorable living conditions (exit Covid) the Cowboys sign Prescott this year to a mid to high 30 something contract (36-38M) that boom happens and Prescott's number suddenly shrinks from the new contract's current 21.1% based upon a 180 million cap to...wait for it...15%. The gamble lies in whether or not each side believes in a more "normalized" return to pre-covid conditions and interest in their product. Right now, the more pessimistic Jones is locked into the status quo, and as such, may corner himself into facing a future with someone not named Prescott leading his team.

Just cannot get out of my head Holcomb blowing up Zeke on blitz protection last year. It was insane!

Get all ya can while ya can. Look at RGIII doing all those commercials before he crashed and burned.

Obvously Dak isn't among the elite but it just doesn't matter, get all he can now.

Tom Brady was in a unique situation with his wife making all that $$$$$$, so he could do what he did,

I really believe he will hit free agency and won't be tagged
I'm actually leaning towards that conclusion. There are reports that they will tag him for this season with the knowledge that it will be his last in their uniform. I know that it was a bit long winded, but unless there happens to be that massive jump in cap numbers, the 2022 tag for Prescott leaps to 50+M. No and way Dallas pays that, cap increase or not. In order to tag him this year there would have to be massive cuts and/or restructures because, this year's tag number for Prescott is 37.68 million. Dallas is currently $17.7M under the cap.

Dallas has until March 9th to either tag Prescott or he becomes a free agent. That's 13 days from today. Clear signs will be them renegotiating contracts, making cuts or a combination of both between now and then. Absent these moves, the decision to move on has been made and several teams will make a bid for Prescott's services.

Question: If/when he becomes a free agent, what price will it take to sign him and for how many years?
