Joey Votto.

I won't go into the why I am a Sox fan again, but as a Mets fan growing up, I want them to stay.

Also - they will be a better team than the Yankees over the next 5 or so years.

Maybe from a rotational basis but not as an overall team.

They don't have much as of prospects on the offensive side of the ball outside of D'arnaud.

You also seem to be forgetting that the yankees will spend money and they have a lot of it coming up with these one year deals coming off the books.

Cano will get paid but he wont stop them from brining in a couple nice pieces.

I think Matthews is an outstanding athlete/footballer, but he's got to be about as intelligent as a pallet of shingles. That one play might have been a heat of the moment thing, but this isn't the only play I base my opinion on.

yeah you can not soley on that play but he was on record saying he was going out and crushing Kaep. He was diving before Kaep went OB but he did appear to do a little extra.

He tore the packers to shreds without running at all really. All from the Pocket. That's what makes him so dangerous. He doesn't need to be mobile to be great. His Mobility just adds to it...

exactly, he hast that kind of arm and when that isnt working he can run

I watched the Jets game, and after Folk's kick, the camera panned to Geno Smith, and he had his chest out like he really did something other than get hit late out-of bounds to give them the win.

Say that too. Acted like he had just won the Super Bowl.

I didn't realize this is the last year they have the big Santana hit. That was a fast 6 years!

They've really only got Wright on the books long term.

I thought he's suffer this season with the loss of Crabtree, but he really clicked with Vernon Davis in camp, and Boldin adds that safety net that Crabtree was for him.

With their D, his arm and legs, they should be in the NFC Championship again. I just don't want them to win a 6th SB. That is the Steeler's record, and I don't want to share.

I just don't see them as big spenders. I could be wrong but if I were a Mets fan I don't like to front office or owner making some of the choices on FA etc.

I think the Pack's D is worse than advertised as well. So he had a great game but I think it was against a bad secondary.

I honestly don't think there are very many good secondaries in the NFL anymore because of the rules. Seems like almost everyone is getting torched..

It is true about the immediate offensive prospects, outside of d'Arnaud, but the Giants have shown you win with pitching. The Mets could have a similar staff in 2015. I don't know how good Wilmer Flores really is, and Cecchini and Nimmo are likely Citi bound in 2016 . The Mets showed a willingness to spend last season when they dabbled with Michael Bourn, so I could see them going after Jacoby Ellsbury as a leadoff man and CF. I just hope they don't overpay for him. He would add a lot to the offense.

The Yankees do have money to spend as a lot of contracts come off the books, but who are they going to spend on? Free agency is not what it once was. as teams are locking up their young players lately.

I don't know if they have the prospects to trade for top talent like a David Price. Based on 2013 numbers, it doesn't seem that any prospects stepped up, and many stepped back from 2012.

I just think that the AL east is so loaded now that even if the Yankees field a decent team, they will still not win. The Sox, Rays, O's, and Jays already have better, younger talent on their rosters, and as many or more prospects in the minors.

OOPS -

A year after winning the World Series, the San Francisco Giants are mired in last place in the National League West.
Unless the Giants can move ahead of the San Diego Padres and/or Colorado Rockies during the last three weeks of the season, they will be making the sort of history they'd just as soon avoid.

Only once in baseball history has a team gone from World Series champs one year to last place the next. The Florida Marlins took the 1997 Fall Classic, then plummeted to 54-108 in 1998 following a fire sale in which they unloaded key players like Moises Alou, Kevin Brown, Bobby Bonilla, Gary Sheffield and Charles Johnson.

The Giants have no such excuse. The core of the team, including NL MVP Buster Posey, ace Matt Cain and World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval, was back this season and most experts expected them to make the postseason again.

It hasn't worked out that way. So what went wrong?
In 2012, the Giants scored 718 runs, good for sixth in the league. This year, they are mired near the bottom with a group that includes the Philadelphia Phillies and Padres, with only the Miami Marlins being substantially worse. Posey has been solid but not as dominating as he was in 2012, and the teams has missed the production Melky Cabrera provided before his season ended in a 50-game suspension.

But the difference in pitching has been even more stark. Last season, San Francisco was fifth in the NL with a 3.68 ERA and was among the league leaders in complete games, shutouts and hits/nine innings. This year, the team has the fourth worst ERA in the Senior Circuit and is among the leaders in walks allowed.

Cain has gone from a 2.79 ERA to 4.37; and his other stats are worse across the board as well. After a decent 2012, Barry Zito has been awful. Ryan Vogelsong missed a big chunk of the season with a broken hand and has seen his ERA balloon from 3.37 to 5.62.

Cain, Vogelsong, Sandoval, Jeremy Affeldt and Marco Scutaro all have battle injuries.
Add it all up and the Giants have gone from a plus-72 to a minus-77 run differential. That's the difference between first place and last place — and the reasons the Giants soon could be in the record books.

BigD, I'm going to use this for a new thread, okay?

The SF Giants handling of the Zeets situation is going to be very interesting next season. He's clearly not fooling batters anymore and if you give me a week, I can get my fastball to about where his is, no shit. do they tell him to just stay home? (Or, in his case, HOMES.)

No doubt. The Pack D is horrendous, but 400 yards is 400 yards. I think his game is adaptable to the defense. Against a better D, he may run more or use the read option more. His results may not be the same, but the name of the game is W's and his team has the overall talent to help him.

He has the rocket arm, jet legs, and he doesn't seem to get rattled. He could be the best of the bunch of the "new breed" of QB's.

:agree:

Granted, you can't let DB's hang all over the receivers, but with the rules protecting the QB's and passing becoming predominant, you have to help out the D somehow. Changing the bump rules to extend to 10 yards may be a way to cut off the quick slants that many teams throw in that 5-10 yard area, and even out the playing field.

All Valid points and I agree to some extent but I think from a heads up basis the Yankees>>>Mets from a team perspective not situational.

The Mets might be in a better spot due to their division etc but I was just talking head to head.
