49ers waived/injured DL Lawrence Okoye and Lamar Divens.

A former rugby player and track star, Okoye was fully expected to wind up on the practice squad, but will instead spend the year on injured reserve if/when he clears waivers. He'll presumably make another long-shot roster bid next summer. Divens hasn't appeared in a game since 2010.

They will have to cut him at some point before the season and wait for him to clear the waiver wire before they can sign him to the PS. Right now, he is injured. Does not make sense to hold on to him until the final cut when he won't be able to practice or play in the last pre-season game.

I dont get this move. I thought this was suppose to be a project.

He is a project, a huge one. I think it makes less sense to have him take up a roster/PS spot while he has so far to go before he learns the game. Reality is he isn't ready to play in the NFL yet. I don't expect teams to jump at the chance to have him either. It's not like he was lighting things up in preseason.
