Excellent stuff from Baggs today re: the silver lining of so many hurt starters -- bullpen arms emerged.

1. Two rookies establishing themselves while throwing 100 -- RanRod and Miller
2. An important bridge piece -- Jelly
3. Two unconventional RH setup guys -- Tyler and Walker
4. Perhaps a valuable swingman in Bivens

Add in the backend dudes (Camilo and Taylor) and that could be the best bullpen in the majors.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if/when we get all the SP back. My guess:

Rotation: Webb, Snell, Ray, Harry, Cobb
Hicks goes to the bullpen
Winn, Bivens, Birdsong in AAA

Of course, we are unlikely to have full health, but it's fun to dream

Harrison activated
Ingram called up (I also missed adding him to the roster when it happened on Tuesday)
VR optioned
Bivens optioned

That's gonna piss off some people.
You called, I answer. Don’t see the appeal of Ingram. Sure, he probably has filthy stuff (like so many other roster castoffs) but multiple organizations have already tried the catch lightning in a bottle move with him without success. Why bump Bivens for him?

Fresh arm, I guess. Bivens wouldn't be available until they get back to SF.

My bigger contention was burning a 40 man roster spot on him when they have guys in AAA that have looked better than him. And with Warren and Ray nearing a return, it just makes him another FZ churn casualty after 2 appearances

Bivens is a nice story, but has zero long term value. And he just pitched multiple innings yesterday, so sending him down today makes a lot of short term benefit.

I suspect this is an audition for Ingram. Bivens has looked fine. I don’t really see him as a DFA candidate for the guys coming off the 60. I do see Ongram as a DFA candidate, though. And I think Jackson has already solidified his DFA slot.

I guess, not if he clears waivers?

My point is why is he even in the org to audition? And no other org has kept him this year. Why should the Giants, who often discard churn players as quickly as they claim them, do any different? Just seemed odd to burn a 40 man spot on him in light of pending transactions.

Ignominous end to a career that almost got there. He had a lot of ABs here.
You and Brightboat seem to agree on your assessment of Slater.
It is interesting that they sent him and cash for a pitcher that they nontendered after 2022, despite good numbers that year, just so they could send him to AAA (instead of dfaing Jackson on Ingram). I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get dfa’d when Ray and Warren are ready

Slater 4 Young does not change the 40 roster count. Young is still on the 40.

I didn’t mean to say it does. What I was trying to convey is that two 40 man roster spots need to be made open for Ray and Warren. Knowing FZ’s penchant, it could well be the new guy who gets dfa’d
