A thought experiment I had this morning:

Imagine we didn't trade him for Beltran (it was the correct move at the time) and his career progressed as it has. We probably don't get Snell. Webb/Wheeler/Harrison/Hicks/Ray/Cobb is pretty intimidating.

Avila was actually released. He's been on the 7 day IL with Sacramento. I don't know what his injury is or the severity of it but considering the Giants released him, it could be something somewhat serious. Otherwise, they may have just called up a guy and put him on the 60 day IL.

Also, note that the Giants are replacing another starter with a reliever on the roster. That means we've got a rotation of Webb and Hicks, and, nominally, Winn and Howard, plus a certain bullpen day. Its likely we'll see openers for a lot of games in the next two weeks.

Apparently, Harry will not be ready when eligible to come off the IL. I think they are deliberately slow playing him to keep his innings down. Which is pretty smart.

We expected him (and Hicks) to get hurt at about this time to give them a month or so off to recharge the arm. Because of that expectation, I am not too worried about this “injury”. That doesn’t mean this is a BS ailment, it means that it is too convenient to be too worried about.

Thats 23 trips to the IL for the year. 2024 is just not our time.

I look at it differently with the team being so injured and still right in the mix. It’s still only June and they are no worse than the other 6 teams with basically the same record. I’d like to try to make the playoffs this year.
