Diaz’ advantage over Walton is that Diaz is on the taxi squad and Walton is not.
Not trying to argue that Diaz isn't close to a call up. I'd just be a little surprised if Walton is the 40 man casualty. Despite all the middle infielders FZ has stockpiled, not many of them play shortstop. He gets a lot of 2nd basemen who also play the corners.
But Walton has not looked good at SS at all.

I'm guessing that is why the AAA squad has a roster size of 30 to 32 players on it, so they can keep the taxi squad going with plenty of players left at AAA. I wonder how often they change the players on the taxi squad. I also wonder if the taxi squad is even necessary any longer.
Especially when the Giants are home. Getting a player to the park on short notice isn’t an issue.

He is churn fodder. Conversely, Rondon looks to be a legit pickup.
