I need to get up to date on the options rule that started this year, because I think the Giants are going to be impacted by it more than any other team.

As part of the new rules, teams are only able to option a player back to the Minor Leagues five times per season for three years.

The limit on Minor League options will not begin until after May 2.

That would be my assumption as well. The Giants do some odd transactions. He was added to the 40 man, non tendered, re-signed to a minor league deal and now suddenly added back to the 40 man roster.

He seems to be this year's Estrada. He is hitting well but, when everyone is healthy, there is no room on the roster. The problem with that this year is that fewer of the guys who bump him are actually hitting.

Ruf’s numbers don’t really concern me. I have actually watched the games, and he has gotten some of the worst BABIP luck I remember ever seeing. It is really uncanny how snake bit he is this year.
