That is my understanding. But once they start rehab, there is a clock attached.

Weird. I wonder why the need to get rid of Kazmir. Seems they bailed quickly on him. I'd been okay with a couple more starts. If Sanchez isn't ready yet, who will fill the 5th spot? Tropeano is in dfa limbo and could walk. Does Menez get the start? Does Frisbee or Long get the call?

They can “declare” a setback in his rehab which stops/resets the rehab clock. I have no idea what criteria needs to be met in order to restart the clock, though.

Yes they can but I have not heard of any "setback" yet and the clock has ran out. I guess they could say that they shut him down 2 days ago and be okay.

These announcements are not often made to the “media”, since only roster-wonks like us even care.

But usually something comes out to the media that a rehabbing player had to be shut down due to some kind of issue. MLB Trade Rumors is pretty good about finding out stuff like this and reporting it. However, it may not come out until Beede's next turn in the RiverCats' rotation gets skipped. That should be tomorrow or Thursday.

I went on the Giants' website because I thought Doval was optioned to make room for Long. However, they don't report that Long's contract was purchased - it was Jimmy Sherfy's! And he was immediately placed on the 10 day IL. All very weird because, last I heard about Sherfy, he was on the Olympic squad and listed on the River Cats' roster as "temporarily inactive".

No mention of sherfy on RosterResource. They have the Long purchase mentioned, but in a future tense.

I suspect the sherfy news is a mistake. I havent seen/heard that anywhere else.
