His rate is a little different than JoeD's. Speaker wasn't hitting as many homers as he struck out. Still impressive, but different.Eh, Griffey in Seattle maybe but i'd prefer a guy who didn't break down at 30. I'll take Speaker.
OPS+ 157 - 136
You said you were impressed by strikeout rate, don't get much better than Speakers.
SssshhhhhhIsn't there another guy nicknamed "Pudge" that came around before Ivan?
Saying someone is a top 10 CF of all time isn't exactly hate. You keep going to his .325 career average, but Cobb hit what, .365 for his career and Speaker .345, both had great speed and were far better defensive players. Mays, Mantle and Griffey Jr all had more bombs. He's in the argument, but it's not just this mock that he hasn't gone top 10. He has rarely gone top 20Question why the hate on DiMaggio? Am I missing something like usual. I feel his career batting average of .325 (I think) and other stats makes him a great player but not sure why others aren't a fan.

I take him over JoeD because of the base stealing element of his game. Or the OBP.
I hold it against Speaker that he wasn't the best at his position during his own era. That isn't really fair, but I still do it.
Less home run hitters = less swinging and missing... That's not Speakers fault...
All dayTris Speaker > Joe DiMaggio
See ya in the morning johnny
that makes no sense... you can't reward him for playing back then either... He was well better than average... so he was great... My whole point is that you can't look at rate stats without also mentioning the MLB averages of his time...
Speaker could have had 300-400 HR's without question. He played in an era of huge ballparks and used his speed. He hit less HR's than Joe D....BUT.... Average-Speaker .345 Joe D .325, Doubles-Speaker 792(MLB record) Joe D 389, Triples-Speaker 222 Joe D 131, Stolen Bases- Speaker 436 Joe D 30, OPS+-Speaker 157 Joe D 155, AND Speaker is widely considered the best defensive CF in MLB History(along with Mays)that makes no sense... you can't reward him for playing back then either... Meaning Joe D would have been the 3rd best CF of the 20's. Nobody was topping CobbYeah I think Cobb and Speaker both went out in 28.
I'm not rewarding him for when he played i'm rewarding him because he's one of the best players in the history of the game.
To me, nobody ever has.Meaning Joe D would have been the 3rd best CF of the 20's. Nobody was topping Cobb
Yeah, Cobb had those two years for Connie Mack in Philly. The last, '28, he had a damn good teammate in Tris Speaker!Yeah I think Cobb and Speaker both went out in 28.
I would have played a two man OF with 5 IFer'sYeah, Cobb had those two years for Connie Mack in Philly. The last, '28, he had a damn good teammate in Tris Speaker!
Ahhhh....Just saying... I had ivan Rodriguez on my short list because I thought he was still available.
Can you imagine two players like that going out at the same time, on the same team, now?I would have played a two man OF with 5 IFer's
