The Cowboys will let RB DeMarco Murray test the free-agent market, according to a report from Fox Sports Southwest.

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said that negotiations with Murray's agents have been "slow".

Jones said that Murray "is probably going to get some peace and see what's out in the market, and then we'll talk and see. I do believe deep down he'd love to stay in Dallas."

Murray rushed for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.

Hope Jerry has a real good plan

Not sure if there is a plan unless Murray is willing to take less than what he'll get on the open market.

More or less talking about the other options if Murray isn't re-signed. Is the plan AP or Ingram or addressing the position in the draft? I would think they aren't putting any stock in Randle at this point, or should I say hope he's nothing more than a bench player

Thanks but the cowboy coaches have already said as much.
Parcells said it....Bulls Eye is on RB's jersey.

Dallas wants an RB2 to some extent. Murray stays on the field, a rare 3 down back cause he's very good picking up his required blocks.

The best option for the Cowboys would be to draft a RB.

I think it's a vet and a top 3/4 round rookie RB that has shown the ability to block on 3rd down. I think the blocking part will be huge.

Agreed Romo needs all the protection he can get, when not handing the ball off

I think if Murray hits the open market, he's gone. Just takes 1 of the other 31 teams, someone will pay him.

And he will get it, and never put up the numbers he did without our line in front of him.
Sometimes the money is more important to those guys.

Oh without a doubt, he will sign elsewhere as long as Jerry lets him test the market. JJ isn't going to pay what other teams will, and likely shouldn't. That doesn't mean the Cowboys don't need a comparable back thats gonna be less injury prone, fumbles less and isn't gonna require a big contract. Not sure who that might be, or if its possible even.

That may be True, but did you know this last year his YPC behind our "great line" was actually lower than his career average?

Damn. Initially I was against drafting melvin gordon. I have changed my mind. If he can pass protect I am on the gordon bandwagon. Looks like he is going to be a stud. Great vision and has great initial explosion. And trade a 7th round pick for ap and sign him to a home town discount and cut randle whom appears to be headed down the wrong path

Lol, trade AP for a 7th rd pick? Wow . I don't think so, but your theory is sound. If Murray does leave in FA, I would go after AP (proven vet and probably still the best RB in the league at 30), and I would still draft a RB in the 3rd or so round of the draft to not only compliment him, but to take some of the load off. If they're also smart, kick that thug Randle to the curb while they're at it. Would offer AP nothing more than a 2 year deal laced with performance incentives and a 3rd year team option. I just don't see that as killing this team's future as so many of "sky-is-falling" crowd does here, and they have to operate under the assumption of a 2-3 year window with Romo. Can a rookie really be relied upon to maintain status quo in a crap shoot draft for sure ?? Is Jerry willing to gamble the house and his team's successful running identity on a rookie RB or cast-off vet in FA?? AP is not done yet imo, and will come back with a vengeance to prove people wrong after a disastrous year. Making any RB carry the rock alone over 400 times in one season in the NFL, is just simply suicide and insane. Just don't trust any rookie to come right out of college and carry the load alone right away, as it usually takes some time for them to learn the pro game and become a force.

You're probably right, but the tag number for RBs is around $10Mil I think and Murray will also be looking for something around that neighborhood as well. He may even get it from the Raiders or some other organization looking to add that one piece to their puzzle (Colts?). I know he said that he wants to go to a winner, but cash is always King. AP also needs to be realistic with his age and baggage, as no team is gonna pay him like the old AP (which is why the Vikes are reportedly looking to trade him even with cap space to spare). Especially just before this deep RB draft. He will have to take some kind of home discount, or he can go kick rocks for that other team that is not as much of an household name and legit contender for a SB in the state of Texas.
