This is just my opinion...

Our coverage was definitely sub-par today. Last year, most of our sacks came off of having awesome coverage downfield, and the quarterback would have nothing to do with the ball. However our coverage this year has been subpar. I believe that a large part of this comes from the absence of Dennard. I think once he comes back, our pass D will pull a 180. Dennard will be able to cover one of their receivers like a sheet, and it will help our other corners and safeties to step up their game.

Our coverage D is alright, its the front 4 thats our biggest defensive problem. Infact, we are getting dominated in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Face it, Jared Crick is probably the most overrated DT in the NCAA. The guy is an AVERAGE AT BEST DT, that was made out to be something he is not because he shined next to Suh. He hasn't had 1 game, NOT ONE GAME, where he did good since Suh has left.

With that said, we didn't touch the QB at all tonight....hard to have good pass coverage when the QB is completely untouched all game and gets all the time in the world to throw.

And Compton needs to be fucking benched. That guy is sooooooooooooooo SLOW, gets beat to the outside every fucking play.

i agree that the d-line did terrible. however, my point is that last year our d-backs made our line look good. they held their coverage for as long as our line needed to get to the quarterback. i think we have the talent to do that again this year, if we have Dennard. without him, we have andrew green (who i am not convinced that we didn't just recruit to get his brother). i understand that he has played only 2 games, but he seems to have a lot of trouble with just about anyone he is up against. i miss Prince.

"There's a lot of things he wanted us to change as far as technique-wise," sophomore cornerback Ciante Evans said. "I mean, the defense is still going to be the defense. But technique-wise, he wanted us in different positions and there are different reads. We have to go off what he wants."

Nebraska led the nation in pass-efficiency defense in 2009 and was third in 2010.

Why would you want to change anything being ranked #1 & #3.
There was an article I read earlier this year about: if we continued to play that aggresively we would be penalized more playing in the BIG.
I'll try and find that article.

I saw ANdrew Green step up last night. Yeah last week it was blown coverage after blown coverage but this week after the first quarter he was covering a lot better.

He is young and I still have hope.

Something went very wrong out there yesterday, Dennard coming back is no cure all but it should help, our LB's were getting wrecked on the edge and in coverage, #4 is only one guy he can't do it all by himself, or can he?

We ll look much better against UDub. Fresnos offensive scheme baffled us like chinese arithmatics.

Hill is known to throw it all out there to keep you on your heels and I think he did just that.

My only real concern was how effective that little rb was .

Green and Ciante both got beat a few times

Blatchford does not belong on a D-1 field, and I'm sorry ta say that, but he just doesn't have it.

safeties were fine, Cassidy gets blamed for that deep play, but it wesn't his fault..

all in all, I'm fairly confident our defense will get fixed..

:L @ anybody saying our D-Line is terrible.. yes they played bad, but they will rebound and are one of the best groups in the country :L

Honestly, we have problems at all three levels of the defense. Our LBs looked like shit today excluding David. Time and time again Fisher and Compton were unable to fill the holes in run support. They got beat to the outside, they got beat up the middle, then when Fresno was passing they dropped into their zones and Carr hit the slant route underneath almost every time.

I really hope that Fresno just had a great gameplan...in any case we got our work cut out for us.

When the Huskers begin Big Ten play this season, Raymond's eyes often will be trained on the officiating, for good reason.

Perhaps you noticed Nebraska standout cornerback Alfonzo Dennard's comments last week. An exceptionally physical corner, Dennard raised eyebrows when he said, "In the Big Ten, you can't hardly put your hands on them (receivers) ***8230; Coach Raymond told me I have to change it up. It's kind of hard for me to play the game the way he wants to me to play."

Change often can be a challenge. Dennard is learning that.

New coach, new conference, new styles.

Raymond thinks he understands Dennard's concern. No reason for panic, the coach said.

"We've just got to see how they call games (in the Big Ten) because it's an aggressive style of defense that we've been playing here," Raymond said.

Raymond said watching video of past Big Ten games doesn't help him much because few corners played as aggressively as Nebraska's.

So what does Raymond tell his cornerbacks?

"That they have to know how to play both styles," he said. "They have to know how to play the physical game, but you also have to know how to play the finesse game, too. You have to be able to mix it up."

Steven M. Sipple: New Husker DBs coach will keep close eye on calls
