Could Martin Brodeur Waive NTC If Devils Aren't Contenders?

As much as it would pain me to see, if the Devils aren't anywhere near contending I want a full on firesale and for them to push hard on an appeal for their first round pick back this year. I don't want to get too much into the mindset now since it's early and I think the Devils have been better than their record shows but they could probably get good value on guys like Jagr and Zidlicky, vets that have expiring contracts.

i would find it strange should he play elsewhere. I just dont think the universe would be right even if he deserves another shot more than most. but what does he need to win to make his career any better. Id rather not see him in another Jersey

How often do teams need a goalie going into a playoff run though? That's my question. Unless Marty says "trade me" I don't see it happening...because I don't know how high the return would be unless some contender loses their starter for the year.

He was pretty lousy last year too. But I think that someone would take him on name value, as a backup.

Agreed. If some team had bad injuries at goalie and needed someone to fill the gap I could see it. But I'd take our backup over Brodeur at this point. I'd bet a lot of other teams feel the same.

I don't see it happening either. Besides, there are possibly better options (ie Ryan Miller, Hiller, etc.) out there for teams looking to trade for a goaltender.

Also, the Devils are only like 4 points out of a playoff spot I believe. So far they've lost a number of games they had no business losing. If they get some bounces or 1 or 2 calls go differently they could be a top 8 team right now. It's still very early in the season.

That's the margin of error in the East. The Jackets have had five games where a bounce or a call went different and they were in a position to score a point or two in each. Now the last three, they blew. But earlier...

I just hope they get healthy / get family issues resolved soon and get some stability in the lineup.
