Really staring to think this guy isnt going to make the next step. For a guy his size he is very easily pushed off the puck.

Hope Im wrong but I dont see itchanging

This is correct and he seems to turn the puck over on or near our blue line constantly

Hmmmmm....I thought he was very strong on his skates with the puck, much more so than last year. It just seemed like he was holding onto it too long, waiting for the perfect play and then would eventually lose it. He needs to learn to read the play more quickly. At one point he skated right through a Toronto defender like he wasn't even there, and maintained control of the puck. He also dominated on face-offs.

He definately was good in the face off circle but on multiple occasions he was lightly checked or just pushed off the puck very easily.

Couturier and Giroux were good enough at faceoffs, but Lecavalier and Hall need to be better. Also, I think all of our players were pushed off the puck too easily, not just Couturier. Toronto was very physical and we did not counteract that. I'm seeing the hits at 34-22 Toronto and it showed.

That said, it should've been 3-0 through one period and then we probably win 4-2 or 4-3 at worst. The Leafs were repeatedly bailed out by their goalie and some luck in the first. We had 15 shots and 10 chances in that period alone. Hartnell could've easily had a natural hat trick in the first and he ends up with nothing.

If his digression continues does his trade value drop?? How much? And if so what's he worth!

I think we're jumping the gun on this for sure though. This kid is going to improve this season and he'll be a defensive stud for us that can also chip in offensively sooner rather than later.

still only 20 right? typical knee jerk reaction. come on guys, get it together. who comes in at 18 and nets 30 goals and shuts down the Hart Trophy winner in the play-offs? i'm gonna go with no one. this convo is rediculous.

Yep agreed. Still way too young to pass judgment. If anything he'll be a very good shut down center.

look yes he is 20 and still has upside. The point I was making is maybe he needs to play in the minors for a bit to get some confidence back.

I havent seen the defensive stud since his rookie season and never saw him chip in offensively. He doesnt hit or fight. I'm not saying to trade him but when is he going to realize his potential. :noidea:

when did the expectations get so high for the 8th pick in the draft 2 years ago? Looking back at the 1st round that year, I don't see anyone setting the world on fire. Sure Landeskog, Nugent-Hopkins, Huberdeau and Larsson may be putting up better numbers offensively, but I doubt they kill penalties as well. he has also been improving on his face-offs each year. I know I said this before, but HE IS ONLY 20! Give him some time to grow in his frame and add muscle.

If he keeps playing like he did last year he can grow into his 20 year old frame and add muscle down in the minors nobody is saying to give up on him. By the way all of those players mentioned i bet you would take right now if we had the chance.

on this team? why? where would be put another scoring winger? cooter is a perfect fit for this team right now as a 3rd defensive minded center that has the ability to put up 20 goals.

Huberdeau is progressing nicely I like the player as well as Larson but they were drafted earlier. Nuge is too small and injury prone. Scheifele just made the Jets and is behind Couts in my books. So in reality we can't really bitch about where he's at. If he continues to progress as a third line checking center great goals would be a bonus and I know he has it in him. Heck season just started.
