Wow, I like it. I really thought the league was going to take the high road and let him off with 5-10 and a fine, but missing a playoff round is legit.
Anything short of a lifetime ban for this scumbag is total joke. The league needs to look not only at his history of suspensions, but also the history of his blatant disregard for other players safety. He repeatedly targets other players heads with questionable hits and it's finally time for the league to make an example of a dirty player.
I hate Cooke's actions a lot too, but people are just being dramatic with the lifetime ban things, right? There have been dirtier players in the league. I certainly don't want him on my team any longer, but this is no failure by the NHL. An entire playoff series is a big deal.
Well McSorely got 23 games for swinging a stick like a bat at Brashear, and Bertuzzi got 25 for almost killing a guy. So this seems kind of steep. Not complaining since I hope he is done with the Pens but "Not long enough" seems like an absurd comment.
Sidenote: this is a big step, but the next one is key. This was EASY for the NHL to do, he has a history of late, he's a slightly bigger name player, fans all around were calling for it, it's in the spotlight, etc. The next one is where they can't afford to mess up.
I think this was a good judgement.
I also believe that Mario will get rid of him in the offseason.
I don't see any problem with this ruling (can't believe I am saying that)
Oh well, better than nothing. Definitely reasonable and the NHL did the right thing here. I just didn't want there to be any chance that he plays as a Penguin again this year. Of course, unless Sid gets back, it's very likely that 1 round will be all of the playoffs.
