when timmonen got hurt 2 years ago they put a kevlar thing around his skate. they should really try to protect peoples feet more with the way the injuries are going. i think the flyers trainer is trying to create something to protect their feet.

So that would be the best thing Philly has contributed to hockey. LOL! ;)

That is good, didn't know that.

This is something that should be mandatory and enforced by the league. That extra half pound isn't going to be a burden on the players to wear and could very easily save someones career.

yea i think it comes down to having enough protection around your foot without hindering your speed. kevlar is relatively light for how strong it is.

i do not understand why people are not trying things out. i would sacrifice .1 mph of my speed to know i would not have a good chance of being injured if i blocked a shot or something.

Thick headed maybe? Just like the goalie masks that don't have the neck protector. Like the hell is up with that? Chara shoots over 100mph, and taking one of those in the throat could kill you. Not too smart, but all it will take is one player to get seriously hurt and then it will all change.

On the same token I am sure the leagues doesn't want a ton of extra padding on the players essentially having 6 goalies on the ice. I like the idea that you take some punishment to block a shot. To much protection can be an issue as well. Look at the armor some MLB players wore to the plate before it was outlawed.

it is not like baseball at all though. when you get hit by a pitch you are awarded first base. when you block a shot in hockey you do it to prevent a shot. that is like saying, hey lets not wear pads because getting hit is part of the game. why would you want players hurt if they do not have to be?

If the players are wearing steel plates in their skates it would change the game. A player would not have to deflect the shot but could square up their skate the puck allowing for a break away or odd man rush. It may seem a bit out there but where does it stop, leg plates, chest plates, some players slide across the ice to make a block and that could be dangerous. In the end it is the goalie job to block shots in a safe manner. If the others chose to it then so be it.

what in the world are you talking about? do you want the skates to have no padding like they did 50 years ago? the skates are padded now. they could just be better. players are going to block shots either way so why not do it in a way that does not get them injured? next time a player on your team gets a broken toe i would guess you would say different.

i found out about this because timmonen got a blood clot in his leg from blocking a shot and played a few games later. i am pretty sure getting a bloot clot is not part of the game. it is life threatening so yes anything dealing with a player's health that would have no affect on his movement i would be in favor of.

I understand what you are saying. I just think anything lowering the scoring is bad for the game. I guarantee there will be more blocked shots in the game if players didnt have to worry about the pain. Which is my reference from baseball, players leaned out over the plate to get hit since they have padding to absord the impact. You might not agree but I hope you can atleast see my point.

i get what you are saying i just think they are different. blocking shots is something you are supposed to do. leaning into pitches is not. not to mention i am just talking about feet. they could still get hit in the face, shins, legs, or stomach. i doubt it would effect the scoring at all.
