For how much it was hyped up (by Lebrun especially) the Jets/Predators series wasn't as good as this one has been yet. This is quality hockey.

Random thoughts

The flyover is not the first for an NHL game. I believe they did it for Game 1 of this very series. Pretty sure they did it before an outdoor game as well.

I have not seen a goalie perform like MAF since, well Hasek.

I will accept Big Buff on my team next year.

I believe Neal was evaluated under the concussion protocol. Unfortunately for the Jets, he slipped the doc a couple blacks and got back in the game.

When I grow up, I want to be Jonathan Marchessault.

And I will definitely accept Mark Scheifle on my team for next year. Maybe even before JT.

The rest of the Jets forwards better show up or else this one is done.

Knights will win the cup

The idea of the Capitals being the only team to ever lose a championship to a first year expansion team makes me chuckle.

The icing on the cake would be if the cup winning goal is a controversial call. ala Brett Hull's skate.

The flyover was so cool to watch on TV, imagine the excitement of being in the arena! Well worth the cost of the flyover!

Man it will be so cool to see an expansion team go to the finals or win the cup in the first year! Not circus league at all.

I still have hope for the Jets. They played so well in game one.

How can anyone dislike Vegas? That's such a bad take.

They are an undertalented team, that is not only overperforming as a whole in the standings(see: By not being a turtling defensive reliant team), they play a very fast, extremely textbook executed brand of hockey.

I mean, if you want to be biased because "Hockey in hot place = bad", but to dislike how they play...I don't get it.

Is there anything about Vegas that doesn't come across as over-compensatory and douchey?

And, Vegas news station...

"Shots fired"?

Nice job. :L

Why do you people hate Vegas? I don't get it. The team is literally doing everything you possibly can well, on the ice, off the ice and everything in between.

They put on these elaborate on ice productions, market the team hard and it's "over compensating". If they do "average" and get "average" results, people would cry that they are a failure.

They were picked to finish in the bottom 3 after the expansion draft and everyone was whispering, "they should be sellers! trade neal for more assets!" until 11 AM on trade deadline day and they are 2 wins away from the Cup finals...

Nothing more than pure, good old, human jealousy. From my chair, this team has done everything "the right way". No clap trap crap, no Broad Street Bullies nonsense. They havent tried painting the ice bright blue or used glowing pucks. Every single one of the complainers would LOVE it if it were their team.

Jealousy.

I actually have little trouble with the team itself, or the fans. It just kind of bugs me an expansion team has gone this far. It might be silly or petty, but it still keeps bugging me.

My issue when it was first announced was that I didn't want the game of hockey to become a sideshow for a bunch of drunk tourists and gamblers. I didn't want the game to be used as a way to sell buffet cards. Plus, there's the whole spectre of a professional sports team in Vegas opening the league up to scrutiny about the integrity of competition in the den of gambling. It's why no other league would go there, but Bettman is a complete whore.

Then the rules were much more favorable than any other expansion ever and now here we are. The improbable story. The great gambling windfall. Hard to make an argument against it being staged. Or at least heavily stacked.

Plus, the owners, the twitter guy, even their library is pretty douchey about it. Telling Winnipeg to learn about hockey? C'mon. That's like telling Philly how to throw batteries at Santa.

It would still be better than losing to a team that lost the championship to a first year expansion team in the first round wouldn't it?

Yeah? Well it's better than not making the playoffs in a year when an expansion team wins the cup!

*sniff*

I think if this was Seattle or Quebec being this successful out of the gate I'd probably be on board. The team, the players, the coaches. All fine. From a hockey standpoint it's pretty amazing. But it's not just about the hockey. In fact, it seems like it's actually very little about the hockey most times.
