Eagles Lose Legend: Bednarik Dies At 89 - Birds 24/7

No doubt he was a mentor to Wings. :)

I'm one of the few who watched Chuck play for the Birds. He played 60 minutes a game for those who are not familiar with him. Center and LB. There will never be another like him. RIP Chuck. There will be many articles about him. Be sure to read.

One of the best players, if not the best player, in the history of the franchise.

RIP Bednarik

One of the hardest hitters to play the game

Concrete Charlie probably flattened Heaven's gate as he went through

Chuck was the definition of a team player. Steady and dependable as well as productive. He defines the word great! There will never be another like him! Rest in peace Chuck!

I too watch him play, born in 1947. He only played LB in that Giants game near the end when the MLB got hurt. Just read an article where he was pumping fist becasue Eagles had the fumble and he knew we'd win, but people said he was happy Gifford was hurt.

I never got the chance to see him play, but I've heard nothing but great praise and admiration, and rightfully so. He is a true legend and hands down was the embodiment of blue-collar Philly sports. You won't get many arguments HE was the best player in franchise history, no doubt in my mind.

The photo of him standing over Gifford is still one of my favorite sporting shots ever, partially because I never really liked Gifford.

RIP and best wishes to his family. Players and people like him make me proud to be an Eagles fan.
