I actually do have NFL Network, mainly because I work every other Sunday and I enjoy getting home and watching Chris Rose "analyzing" all the games in his own inimitable way.

I'll watch anything that dude is a part of. I was very sad when he left MLB.

I've reached out to a few IT/A/V guys I know, in their opinions, if a standard HD/digital antennae isn't getting you what you need for your area, your options are basically- local cable provider (if one exists), Satellite (Dish/Direct) or streaming (if internet is adequate). In their opinions if a middle of the road option of a digital antennae doesn't get you what you need, there's no point in gong with a top of the line model either as the ranges are pretty much the same, its' the picture quality that your paying for (more or less-if even that, you might just be paying more to say you paid more) on the higher end ones.
Sorry Joe, free might not be a viable option given your location

We dont have cable so i miss a ton of NFL games.
Does anyone have an HD antenna? If so, which one, and how do you like it?
The real question is where your house is relative to the TV transmitters. I got an antenna from Best Buy for like $40 that was great in another house, but now it's on the wrong side of the house so it's finicky about position (and I'm too lazy to put one on the roof). I almost never watch network TV besides games.

If you can put the antenna where it's directed towards the transmitters without a lot of stuff in the way you should be fine.

Speaking of antennas I bought several different ones and not cheap ones and I got channels but the quality was poor with the picture breaking up, but that was with an old TV ( wasn't a smart TV if that gives you an idea of how old it was) bought a new TV and WOW got so many channels and they come in crystal clear like watching cable. The plus for OTA is no delay, most any streaming your getting delayed viewing.

Even listening to the radio feed thru Audacy... my Sleeper app was giving me scoring alerts a good 5 or 6 plays before the radio app broadcast them.

Hmm, now that makes me want to upgrade the TV sooner than later. Every TV in our house in around 14-15yrs old, at least

@averagejoe. Well Joe look around your area and see if anyone has an antenna on their roof.....that should clue you in on whether the antenna can pull anything in.....i would think that being 65 miles from both cities could actually be a blessing in disguise... Big cities have repeaters sending out local tv... Be it high def or not you have lots of flat land between you and Chicago and ditto Milwaukee ..thus im guessing the antenna should lock in the High Def signals from both towns....as always you will still be at the mercy of the local blackout rules

That would be a good litmus test but we are in a middle class neighborhood and based on the reponses here, my guess is the majority would rather pay for streaming rather than tough it out with an antiquated antenna.

The antennas work pretty well here in Florida, but then again, we have nothing over 10 feet above sea level to block it. I have direct TV and buy the Sunday Ticket every year. There was a time when I would switch from one service to another every few years to play the game and get the new customer deals and then move it again a few years later when it went up. I would buy the Red Zone when I had anybody but Direct TV, but I got to a point in my life that I was able to just say screw it, I want to watch the Sunday ticket so I'll buy it no matter what. Now that it's going to be on You Tube TV next year I will probably cancel the Direct TV and just go to You Tube TV permanently since it's cheaper anyway. But it makes me happy and so few things do these days.

the problem is streaming doesnt work like direct tv where u just punch in numbers to switch channels so personally i think utube will stink with the sunday ticket Its the biggest thing i miss with direct tv is its ease of operation:suds:

I have YouTube tv. And I agree about the lack of a direct remote that would give me full control of tv watching. Especially the return button.

With that said, the sports package is great. When you are watching any game you can see different scores and stats just by pressing the down button. And it will also let you change from game to game.

Sure it is not as easy to go game to game as satellite or cable. But it is still pretty easy and quick.

I'm really curious to see what they do with the Sunday ticket and all of the formatting. I always watch the Octobox (8 games at once) with Sunday ticket so it will be interesting to see if they keep that feature or what other features they offer. Personally I would love it if there was a way to pick which games you could watch at once. Like if you wanted to watch four games you could pick which ones it was. That option wasn't there with Direct TV.

My curiosity stops at price tag. If ALL the rumors are to be believed- YouTube is buying it for at least 1 billion more than Direct was paying, and if Direct was losing money on the deal charging somewhere in the beighborhood of 300 a year for it.. what are they gonna charge??

From what I can find, DirectTV had roughly 13.5 million subscribers, and around 1.5 million of them purchased the Sunday ticket.

Google claims YoutubeTV has around 5 million subscribers, just over a third of what DTV has.

So how does the math work out where they turn a profit? Do they increase the price, and hope all 1.5 of the current DTV Sunday ticket subscribers jump ship, plus bank on some of their own signing up?
Or would lowering it, significantly, potentially greatly increasing the number of potential Sunday ticket subscribers (and thus increasing youtubeTV subscribers, greatly) be a feasible way to go?

As a decade long Sunday Ticket subscriber, who only recently got fed up with DTV and their ridiculous rates and cut ties (going to YouTubeTV in fact), I'm very curious how they'll handle it, financially.

And if it's reasonable, then I'll start wondering about how they'll roll it out and what features it has.

well so much for my economical theory..guess I won't be subscribing to NFL sunday ticket

"
On Wednesday, Kaplan reported talks between the NFL and Apple broke down several weeks ago over Apple refusing to meet the league's valuation. That desire for a lower cost reportedly stemmed from Apple wanting to offer Sunday Ticket at a lower price than DirecTV currently costs.

According to Kaplan, the NFL's contracts with Fox and CBS forbid lower prices for the package due to concerns it would drive viewers to Sunday Ticket and away from the afternoon network broadcast windows."

ill make a couple assumptions..

1. Because youtube tv is a streaming tv service, they may not FORCE people to subscribe to the youtube tv base subscription... and have the option of ONLY the sunday ticket...

2. if assumption 1 is correct, then the price for youtube tv subscibers and the price for non youtube tv subscribers will be significantly different

i like the idea of assumption one because if that is true, then it such an easy process for anyone who wants to watch the sunday ticket will not have to leave their current tv provider... but many will come to youtube tv for this... so they will win on both sides...

but yea, if they are paying THAT much for it, then it is going to be hard for them to make money on it... But it is Google... so they have the money to take the gamble!!!
