b/c if Sweat turns out to be a mega star and our draft picks flame out. It's on Harris IMO about the trade. Thomas thinks it was all RR about trading Sweat. Still could have fired RR and kept Sweat.
So what ?

I would have liked to have kept Sweat. That said, I think Harris knew that he had to get this team into position to draft a franchise QB. Whether that is Jayden remains to be seen.

Trading Sweat and Chase, as well as benching Brissett was all about getting this team into position to draft a QB.

I'm pretty sure they were out on Chase no matter what. Ron was trying to shop him so he could draft Van Ness a year earlier.

From reports, they wanted Sweat, but felt a 2nd was just too good to pass on.

Imo it was a semi-tank, but I don't hold it against him. If we had kept Sweat, and not benched Brissett, I don't think Jayden is here.

Ton of pressure on Jayden. Just my two cents.

newton got placed on the non-football injury list today.
Saw that! Harris and Peters both feel like big picture guys. Harris tanked with the 76ers. I wonder if Newton was brought in here to eventually replace Allen or Payne. Just not sure which one.

I too would have preferred to have kept Sweat, but I also don't disagree with what they ultimately did with him.

The keys to getting the #2 pick in the draft was as stated, keeping Sam Howell behind center and throwing the ball on the majority of plays.

I believe that they were in full tank mode from the beginning but because of what the organization has been it became difficult to see the difference between typical and purposefully tanking.

On your last point, we disagree but only from the following perspective...
While it's important to note that individual QBs play a role in their success and failure, Organizations ruin more QBs than any other factor in the NFL.
That said, the greatest pressure by far is on the organizational construct and it's ability to make it all work.
Later today, (perhaps tonight, but no later than tomorrow) when I get home, I'll be posting a piece titled, "The difference between winning and losing...What does meaningful change actually look like in Washington?," that gets more into the details.

They did start 2-0. I bailed on Ron after the Bears game. That was a complete debacle. I can't say they tanked from the start. I think Harris made a good faith effort to give Ron one last shot. Once he realized Ron and co. weren't going to turn this thing around the goal shifted.

Everyone wanted Ron gone mid-season. Harris got a ton of credit from the media for not being reactionary. I'm my mind I think Harris after the Bears game realized Ron is the perfect coach to get me where I want to go (a top pick). Why mess that up?

I also think Harris respected Ron, but that wasn't why he refused to fire him. The tank was on by the time everyone started calling for his job.

Looking forward to that @Stymietee

he was worse than Zorn who had no reason to be hired.he took a team to a sb, but showed none of that in DC.

100% agree with that. Harris earned some good rep points in league circles for allowing Rivera to finish out the string. It was too late in the game to fire him right before the start of the season, and by going through all of the distractions brought on by Snyder, dare I say Rivera earned the right to finish the year.

Although I also think part of it definitely had to do with the incompetence displayed, and knowing it wouldn’t get better.

As for Sweat, if you get an early 2nd out of the trade For a rental, you have to do it. There is always time to bring in and/or development someone else to replace him. This is an evaluation year.

Worse than Zorn?
Ron had a sub .500 record after the 15-1 season. Not only did we hire him after being let go mid-season by Carolina, but we gave him the keys to everything and he promptly brought in the coaches and executives that got the Panthers into that mess. It was an awful hire to begin with, and he doubled down on his buddies.

At least with Zorn, you knew he would be in over his head, and had no business being there and Snyder got rid of him in short order. Rivera actually gave the average fan false hope that he would have a clue. Those of his who follow the NFL closely knew different.

I just remember the "stay medium/black and burgundy" Zorn. Swinging gate twice Zorn. It just felt like he wasn't taken seriously or to be taken seriously.

Ron was a bad coach here and an even worse GM. Sure the DEA ran up in the building because of one of his Carolina boys, but for the most part it just felt like Ron ran as tight of ship as he could. He lost the team behind benching Heinicke and hiring Bienemy.
