So, in your rebuild scenario, you are prepared to sign Howell to a big contract in a year or two from now? Wouldn't your team benefit from trading him for more draft assets and extending your QB time to three additional years? (Rookie contract)

BTW; which OL players are you targeting in free agency?

I must say this is an interesting approach.
Howell is under contract for 2 more seasons would like to see him with a competent Oline

Exactly!!
Lamar Jackson has been the sole recent exception to a QB being re-signed at the end of his contract. Howell is entering his 3rd year (Damn Rivera) and will be seeking that contract in 2025 (if not sooner). The rebuild will take at least two seasons unless you're convinced that a rebuild isn't the way to do this.

I like it. I have a hard time passing on Bowers too.
Ok, but at 11?? Do you actually see Bowers as "that guy?"

Here's a bit of history...

Tight Ends (TEs) being drafted within the top eleven picks in the NFL draft is not a common occurrence. The position of Tight End is highly specialized and while it’s an important role on the team, it’s not typically prioritized in the early picks of the draft. Teams often focus on positions like Quarterback, Offensive Tackle, or Edge Rusher with their top picks. However, there have been exceptions where a Tight End prospect was considered so talented that they were selected within the top eleven picks. For example, in the 2017 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected George Kittle in the 5th round and he has since emerged as one of the best TEs in the league. But these are more exceptions than the rule.

I dont see the value in drafting a tight end top 15 in the draft.

Very few of those guys end up being game changers.

Of this list, only one of five - Vernon Davis - was worth their draft slot.

I actually do see Bowers as a difference maker at the position. When you look at TEs, you typically only have a very select few that are difference makers and truly separate themselves from the pack. Those teams are usually very successful with players such as Kelce, Gronk, Witten, and Tony G (the least successful teams). At 11, we are not getting the cream of the crop at a premium position but we can get the cream of the crop at TE. I would take Bowers over the bird best QB, the second best OT, and the second best DE in this draft…at this moment.

doesn't matter if you dont have a qb who elevates everyone around them. Look at kyle pitts in ATL. his numbers suck ass.

He does have an impressive resume'

That said, here are my concerns about him at the next level: (NFL Scouting Report)

While Bowers exhibits impressive physicality at the catch point, his ability to consistently separate from top-tier NFL safeties needs refinement. The risk is a potential over-reliance on zone coverage mismatches in his early career, especially when facing physical defenders who can disrupt his route timing within the contact window.

His build, weighing around 230 pounds, raises questions about his role in the NFL. As an in-line tight end, his size might limit him, potentially pushing him more toward a flex tight end position. His surrounding tight-end room will need to be carefully constructed to complement his skill set.

Though Bowers stands out as a fluid route runner, there's room for improvement in mastering the full route tree. His tendency to round off breaks and occasional mistiming can hinder optimal play execution. Consistency in route precision remains an area to polish.

Bowers' battle against physical press-man coverage and his limited-release repertoire are concerning. Encountering challenges against robust defensive lines and lacking a wide array of release moves could hinder his effectiveness. While his in-line blocking showcases potential, refining his technique is paramount for NFL-level play.

i would love a qb that elevates others , however those are rare , and geez after 9 games we are certain howell cant develop into that guy ? shit he has put up mahomes type numbers in his 1st 9 starts . so he takes sacks and he is a dick ? you put a good team around this kid and he will put up numbers and the team will win

i am willing to wait his contract out to see if he can be unless its obvious before then he is flash in the panning

qbs come out every year

now i dont know if harris will nuke everything , massive change can happen while keeping core players or maybe not we will see

Get your QB right and build out the lines. Then you can get cute with skill position players. This rebuild is going to take another 3-5 seasons.

Considering the fact that Howell will be up for contract renewal at the end of 2024, what would you do at the QB position?

end of 25 we have the chance to resign plus other routes can be done and if he is good enough then sign the bitch if not back to the draft board

I like Howell, his seeming emergence could not have come at a worse time for him IMO.

this is where scouting comes in. If it was me i would continue to build the team by trading howell if he is not the guy and then sign a Vet to start with pairing a rookie qb drafted to sit for a year learning the playbook, playing in preseason.

It appears trending that way however I would like to see him with a competent O-line to see what he does. that being said we don't know whether the new regime will give him a shot or go in another direction.

Exactly!!!

if you're rebuilding you use every asset that you currently have to get every new asset that you want in the future! I imagine that Howell would bring quite a tidy sum at this point.

Disagree.

Left tackle, qb, DT, #1 Wr are the building blocks of a franchise.

Keep Howell. Draft another qb in the first few rounds if you want, but you keep competent qbs around when you find them.
