I don't like the sound of this and it might simply be coach speak. That being said, this would be a disaster and I don't get it at all. Perhaps this is much a do about nothing?

Rivera is entering the fourth year of the five-year deal he signed in 2020 and stated that his contract status is a discussion point with the new owners.

"Those are all things that are all part of our discussion," Rivera said. "And again, these are things that we talk about, we're working into. There's a lot to do, and to assume anything's going to happen immediately is unfair because they are still learning and understanding us, and we're still talking with them and trying to get things lined up and in order.”

I am guessing that Harris told him if that he produces, he can stick around? I don't know. I know Dean wants Rivera to be here and get an extension, but it appears most of the opinion is that Rivera can stick around if he produces this year. Yes, I don't like Rivera, but let's look at this from a numbers perspective. Does the following coach deserve an extension given the following data? Yes OR No?

Coach John Doe:

Last 3 seasons:

2020 = 7-10
2021 = 7-10
2022 = 8-8-1

Playoffs = 0-1

*No winning seasons since 2017 (last 5 years as a head coach)
*3 total winning seasons in 12 years as an NFL head coach
*3 total playoff wins in 12 years as an NFL head coach
*No back-to-back winning seasons in 12 years as an NFL head coach

I am not sure this coach would get an extension OR deserves an extension. Of course, this is Rivera...LOL

Again, I am not sure what conversations have been had with Harris, and I hope Harris is simply speaking broadly and is NOT talking about extending Rivera. For all I know, he might be doing just that OR he might be working on an extension. Rivera said it has been discussed. I feel Harris will damage his credibility and lose some trust in the fanbase by handing out an extension for no reason. It would make Dean happy yes, but I think most fans know we can and should do better. Good is not good when better is expected. Just my opinion and I hope this article has no real merit. Thoughts?

Extensions don’t mean anything . RR being perceived as a lame duck hurts the team but I think it’s time to move on from him

I agree.
We need to move past mediocrity and simply wanting to make the playoffs each year. I cringe when I hear Dean say " we can sneak into the playoffs". Just my opinion.

I want to dominate and go back to being a feared team. Rivera isn't capable of that. There is no data that remotely supports Rivera being a long term or consistent solution.

I don’t see him being it either

My guess is Harris said
Listen, you get the team winning, we will see about an extension.

Could be that simple. I dont know.

I still think Harris and the owners have a road map and plan with names assigned to those plans. Again, i could be wrong.

I doubt harris went to each potential partner and said our long term answer to turn around this once proud franchise is Ron Rivera.

No real reason to even entertain the thought of RR remaining here after this year until the season is over. At the very least, moving away from the coach centric approach and hiring a real GM would be ideal.

The more I read the article and RRs comments, I think this is just simple coach speak and that harris told him to go win and they will chat in the offseason.

I think Rivera has been a terrible GM.

It's still way too early, but the Commanders 2022 draft is looking promising:

Jahan Dotson
Phidarian Mathis
Brian Robinson Jr.
Percy Butler
Sam Howell
Cole Turner
Chris Paul
Christian Holmes

Should have done the same this year. Still would have got Forbes. RR said no trade partner. I don't believe him. They wanted Forbes and took him there.
