im kind of shocked at that. He also said no Kincaid in an earlier podcast.
I know. Kincaid isn't a 2-way TE and I've heard from many that Porter Jr. can't play zone and is a WJ3 clone. Maybe it's about fit or maybe the Skins are wrong. Lol

For the record I like Porter Jr.

One of the things that happens as the draft nears is a lot of so called experts give opinions of players without knowing a lot about the player.

As a Penn State fan I am going to standup for Joey whether Washington drafts him or not. I watch EVERY Penn State game. It is how I knew Jahan Dotson would be good if size wasn't an issue. I have watched Joey for several years now. I believe he can be a good corner in the NFL. So he has played under two different DC's the past couple of years. Under Brent Pry he played a fair amount of zone. Under Manny Diaz (last year) he played mostly man. Manny brings pressure from all angles ... LBer, Safeties etc. So the corners have to play man.

Part two, lets discuss zone because most do not know what zone defense is supposed to do. It allows completions. The idea it to rally up and keep the gains short. No long plays ... when it is done well it can be successful but when it isn't bombs away. Zone defense is the two minute defense. Just saying.

Washington has been playing zone match under JDR. I am not going into a 6 paragraph explanation but depending on what happens a guy who has a zone may leave it to defend a guy who runs through his zone. In other words a modified zone or modified man defense. In theory and my opinion it can be very effective. Last year, with Curl and Forrest at safety they played it well, same for Fuller and BSJ after the first few weeks. It requires a lot of understanding of the defense and communication.

Final analysis, if JDR doesn't think Joey can play his defense then pass on him. I do think 16th round or nearby is correct. I am not familiar with Gonzalez or Witherspoon who many people like. So I am reserving opinion. Kelee Ringo sounds interesting but he is not ready to step in and play the defense under JDR now. Again, my opinion. I love his size and speed. The Brents kid from KSU intrigues me but I don't know enough.

Thanks for that @Sportster72! I also heard the Skins didn't bring Jahan in for a visit because they were trying to disguise the fact that they really wanted him. We all know this is lying season in terms of football.

Maybe the Skins are trying to do the same with Porter Jr. JP and Keim both have said they want to trade down. Mayhew basically said that as well. Could be Porter Jr. is the target.

Long arms, played in a good conference and saw first had what it takes to be a pro. I think there is a good chance he's there at 16.

My fear is Porter Jr. is gonna be a real good pro but we pass on him based on fit, only for Ron and JDR to get run outta town a once the year is over.

It should always be about fit. Porter looks like a good prospect. He is BSJ but a better athlete.

Keim said on his latest pod that if the Skins trade down and are able to grab another pick, Hooker @47 is a possibility.
