  • Washington Commanders
    ANDREW WYLIET, WASHINGTON COMMANDERS
    Andrew Wylie

Commanders signed RT Andrew Wylie, formerly of the Chiefs, to a three-year, $24 million contract.

Wylie reunites with offensive coordinator in Eric Bieniemy, as the two now join forces in Washington. Wylie played a key role in shutting down the Eagles' pass rush in the Super Bowl last month and has appeared in 59 games through his first five seasons with the Chiefs. The Commanders ranked 26th in PFF pass block grades (61.7) last season, as Wylie becomes the second offensive lineman to join the team early in free agency. While he's spent the last two seasons at right tackle, Wylie also has significant experience at guard.

Commanders signed OL Nick Gates, formerly of the Giants, to a three-year contract.

Gates suffered a broken left fibula and tibia against the Commanders in 2021. Once thought to be a career-ending injury, Tuttle bounced back the following season to appear in 10 games for the Giants last season, seeing time at left tackle, center, and left guard. His versatility should make him a valuable asset along Washington's decimated offensive line. He'll likely work primarily in the interior in Eric Bieniemy's offense.

He did, but that doesn't mean it is his natural position in the NFL. He started out at Guard and moved to RT in 2021. He has been in the league for 6 years and most of those were at Guard. He moved to RT out of necessity. He can obviously play both.

It is going to come down to where Cosmi and Wylie are more comfortable and play better.

He had a huge game in the Super Bowl. I would be surprised if they moved him off the RT spot. Looks like the Gates signing is backup center/oG.. Possible starting center or LG.

You don't start him because he has health issues. Gates will take Wes's spot.

He had 7 leg surgeries and almost lost his leg. He signed a 3 year 8 million dollar guaranteed contract. He only played 10 games last year and 2 the year before. Why would he start?

Wylie can play either. They might want to keep Cosmi at RT as he is younger and quicker.

What if Roullier gets released? I said possible not definite. Yes he should be a backup, but you never know. I dont know duke i think the reason why Wylie got that contract was b/c of his play at RT. Of course, anything can happen.

True, it appears Andy and EB were okay with him at Tackle. They have time to see who else they add to the team. They have position flexibility.
