I was watching the ESPN win probability earlier this year because my wolves team fucking sucks ass. Anyways .....gobert was at the free throw line, we were down 6 with 3 minutes remaining. 34% win chance for the wolves. He misses his first free throw. Our win rate went to 43 %.....he misses his second, we went to 47%. I forget who, but some dude hoisted a three that missed and our win % dropped to 30. AFTER the opposing team missed. I came to the conclusion that ESPN is and always has been full of shit

I thought defenders just have to be off the field before ball is snapped? How many times have we seen 12th man on defense penalty because he was running off the field still at the snap. The ball was never snapped...?

If the defense is trying to get the extra player(s) off the field they'll allow them that opportunity. If the defense isn't trying to get back down to 11 the officials are required to stop the clock and call the penalty. Without this rule there are some rare situations when taking 5 seconds off the clock and just giving up a 5 yard penalty is a win for the defense.
