The Flames win & the Oilers lose. Calgary is now ahead of Edmonton in the standings. So much for getting a top 3 pick. Sorry dash.

Meh, maybe the hockey gods will come through and reward the Flames.

Nope. Feaster does not have any rings nor a roster anyone wants to trade for.

Although at this point I'd rather have the Flames roster. Only a few pieces away from contending. Not a whole Defense away.

you would rather have the flames roster over the oilers? today? ummmm errrrr I really like Dash but um Thats folly. no way I take this ragged group of forwards over the Oilers. not a chance. you get a competent management group in Edmonton and they make 2 trades with the depth of forwards they have and boom they are deadly. its just good they have no competence.

Currently, there are two guys I would want on the Oilers roster - Hall and Eberle. If Hall can stay healthy (a big if because he plays like a wrecking ball on skates), he will be the power forward that everybody thinks he can be. Eberle possesses silky smooth hands and a great hockey IQ.

Yakupov for all the talent is a major league flake who reminds me of a young Dany Heatley. As for Justin Schultz, maybe we should take a closer look at his numbers this season:

First 20 games: 13 pts -4
Next 22 games: 8 pts -13

I'd rather have Danny DeKeyser.

its just good they have no competence.

RNH deserves his own post because I can't believe how badly Oilers mgmt. botched the handling of his injury. This is your supposed No.1 center for the next 10-12 years and you decide to let him play through an injury rather than treat it properly? Instead of having surgery (oh I don't know) last summer and giving him the lockout to rehab and get stronger, you delay it and now he's delayed on his off-season workouts because he has to wait for his shoulder to heal properly before he can do anything?

Oh well, Kevin Lowe knows a thing or two about winning.

no kidding. they may have ruined him. to have that bad a shoulder injury this early through mismanagement is awful. that being said do we know it was all oilers decision on that? did RNH have any say in no surgery? kesler has that same type of decision making

True, Lowe has more assets to work with, but the Flames are a scrappy bunch and the same two trades could have a huge impact. The Flames have the attitude that you can't trade for easily. The Oil has a bunch of softie kids with no direction. I guess it depends on what you want to build from.

Plus, you can augment two forward lines with two trades. That's harder to do with Defencemen. Especially with how far the Oil are from a top tie r tandem, let alone a solid second pair.

Feel bad for Nuge. Actually most of the high picks they've had. They didn't stand a chance. Hope he gets better fast. I would accept him in trade for Tim Erixon :)

Of course, there is wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth amongst Flames fans that the Flames are playing their way out of a top 5 pick. I don't know what else Feaster and co. can do, I mean, they call up a bunch of guys from the AHL and have inserted two recent NCAA signings into the lineup. These kids want to impress the Flames brass and make a statement now and for next season.

Reality is that the Flames will likely have a bad team again next season and will be in the running for another top pick next season. However, based on what I have seen of late, it will not be an easy two points for the opposition on most nights.

I disagree. I've watched too many Oilers games this season and it's not all on the d-men; sure they could use improvements there, but their forwards are all offensive minded. They are lazy and apatehtic when it comes to backchecking. I'm not sure if a hard line coach needs to come in and shape them up, but until then, they will be a power play only team.

I counted in the second period alone last night agains the Ducks, five three on two break outs for the Ducks after Oilers rushes and turnovers just at the blue line or even inside the Ducks zone. The forwards are just not interested in defense.

yeah I agree but man they have so much youth to trade for more stable players (less talented but incredibly usefull). they are overloaded with talent and no balance. unload some of that talent and get the balance. the part where they are lazy and apathetic will change on a new team new coach less youth at least IMO

Esls makes some very good points (as usual) - The Oilers do not dominate anyone at 5-on-5 play because they don't have the right forward mix and/or the mindset that you need to cycle the puck and dominate down low in the opponents zone. Sure, it's great to score off the rush, but usually those are 2-on-1 or 3-on-2 odd-man rushes.

Until they incorporate that aspect into their game, it's going to be a struggle to score goals at the NHL level.

My word, this is one brutal lineup the Flames are icing tonight in Nashville:

Pat Steinberg‏@Fan960Steinberg2m

#Flames lines tonight: Baertschi-Reinhart-Cervenka; Hudler-Horak-Aliu; Bancks-Byron-McGrattan; Hanowski-Street-Jones

I guess Feaster and Hartley are tired of winning (lol)

Edit: All these guys are healthy and are available to play:

Pat Steinberg ‏@Fan960Steinberg 26m So looks like Stempniak, Cammalleri, Backlund, Jackman, and Stajan will all sit this one out. #Flames

They move ahead of the Oilers in the standings & now they're worried about their draft pick? :lame:

lol - Oilers have losing down to a fine art, DaBolts, Flames need more practice.

/I still don't get why Kipper is starting tonight, though, this kind of tanking calls for Leland Irving.

And speaking of tanking, check out the Preds forward lines for tonight:

Butler-Legwand-Forsberg
Kostitsyn-Spaling-Bang
Clune-Smith-Halischuk
Henderson-Mueller-Watson

It certainly looks like two teams not trying to win tonight's game to me (lol)

I guess it will come down to which team needs that potential franchise forward more. I give the edge to the Preds. The Flames have a 4 point lead on them.

What these two teams are doing is wrong. Fans are still paying their hard earned money to see quality hockey. Well at least Kipper is playing.
