In all honesty, I think what Burke is alluding to in that tweet is a more pushback from the Flames. Too many times last season I saw opposing players taking liberties with Flames players (e.g. Gaudreau being repeatedly slashed, Flames goalies getting run over) and there was no response from the Flames. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for line brawls or dirty hits, but you need to send a message that that kind of stuff is going to be addressed. And I don't just mean guys like Bollig and Engelland, Monahan and Colborne are big boys, time to get your hands a little dirty.

Not to sound like Grapes, but the problem is today's players are too damn soft. Hiller was actually afraid of the other team - he went out of his way to avoid any type of contact with them - watch him go hide in the net when any scrum breaks out near him.

I mean, I think Monahans and Colbornes were what we were expecting too but we got Colby Armstrong and Colton Orr lol.

But if there is someone who can add physicality to Monahan and the plethora of defencemen the Flames have, that would help.

Nate Leaman (current Providence Friars head coach) has been mentioned as a possible candidate. Prior to coaching at Providence, he turned the Union College hockey program around.

I just cannot fucking fathom what would possess anybody to even want to talk to Carlyle. I just don't. Isn't seeing guys he coached on the Leafs playing 1000x better for a good coach proof enough that you do not want this guy near your team?

Personally, I think it's just the rush to be the first one to call it, I mean on offense to Lavoie, but anybody with a past connection to Burke is likely a candidate. Since there's little accountability these days as far as journalism is concerned, it doesn't matter if you're right or not.

Well, I think Torts has the same old school mentality as Randy and he's employed so there's that. But I agree, I don't think Randy was a particularly good coach in Anaheim either and he kind of lucked into having a few all time greats on his team at once.

Perhaps, and it's obvious because Burke has hired him twice, but he's been linked to Ottawa too. I just don't get it, but...

This is also very true.

I would think the flames would go away from the hardass coach now after 'Artley ... but then Burkie :noidea:

Some fans want to see the return of Darryl Sutter behind the Flames bench. Heck of a coach, but not much of a departure from the hard ass of 'Artley. In the words of Austin Powers, "That train has sailed".
