CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed defenceman Kenney Morrison from Western Michigan University.
Morrison, a native of Lloydminster, Alberta, played three seasons with WMU Broncos between the NCHC and the CCHA. In 37 games during the 2014-15 season, the 6’3”, 208 pound defenceman netted five goals, 10 assists for 15 points and 36 penalty minutes. His career college numbers were 54 points (16G, 38A) and 151 penalty minutes in 115 games.

Kris Russell nominated for the Masterton trophy...

Russell’s willingness to step in front of screaming slappers is a big part of the reason the 27-year-old has been nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy by Calgary’s chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA).

The annual award salutes the NHLer who ‘best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.’

“It’s an honour to get recognized for something like that,” Russell said.

“It’s pretty special.”

It’s somewhat fitting Russell’s nomination for the Masterton Trophy is being announced as the Flames head to St. Louis, where he spent parts of two seasons with the Blues.

The city has been acquiring those lands for several years

This is something the city of Toronto needed to start doing 20 fucking years ago. Must be nice to have a city council who understands the value of owning land in the city you're elected to run.

I must say though, I'm going to miss McMahon Stadium, yeah it's old and the concourses aren't wide enough, but it has great sight lines. I enjoyed many a good game (and beer) in that stadium.

Flames have recalled Brad 'Tiffani Amber' Thiessen on emergency basis from the AHL...

He made his share of mistakes (the "ROR" offer sheet fiasco stands out the most), but Jay Feaster was responsible for building a large part of the curent core of this team. Monahan, Gaudreau, Hudler, Wideman, Russell, Colborne, Jooris, Granlund, Ramo all were either drafted by Feaster or acquired through trades and/or signings. Also, he's been a pretty big Flames fan this season as evidenced by this tweet:
