A few of those seasons are pretty bad.

Leafs to buy-out Clarkson?
http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/ru...avid-clarkson/
It should be noted as well, this would not be via compliance buyout for two reasons:
1. The Leafs already used both on Mike Komisarek and Mikhail Grabovski.
2. Compliance buyouts only apply to deals signed under the old CBA.
So in short, this one counts against the cap. Woof!
Ken Campbell didn't do the proper research here. Clarkson's contract is structured in such a way that he's largely protected from buyout (nice job by his agent). Leave it to those irresponsible bloggers to get the answers that savvy experienced journalists can't be bothered to figure out before writing something.

But there is actually money saved in buying him out - almost 2.6 million dollars. That's like 225,000 hot dog/beer combos. Sure, there is no incentive to buy him out as his cap hit is the same either way and if you buy him out, that is dead money and no team likes having dead money on the books unless they are trying to reach the salary floor. So there is hope the Panthers may trade for him.
Holy hell, if Clarkson's bonuses are guaranteed money, the Leafs are stuck with him or his dead money counting against the salary cap. You'd think a savvy GM (or one of his interns working on advanced stats) would know this. This isn't in the Sherman/Feaster territory yet, but it may be approaching it.
And if all this is true, why wouldn't any agent get his client a long term deal with a steady base salary and large guaranteed bonuses? Now we know why he chose less money in Toronto than he did in Edmonton - his agent should get a raise or Nonis caved in the negotiations and gave him guaranteed bonus money, and in that case, Nonis should be shown the door. Oh, he just got a 5 year extension this past summer you say? (I totally understand it, though, he was named the GM of the year by Sports Illustrated) This may be become the comedy platinum out of Toronto thread in due time.
Sounds from reading that article though that Toronto would still get the cap savings, just not the actual $ savings. Given the kind of cash that they have, if they get up against it cap wise, they could still buy him out and at least get the cap savings.
And yeah, this is win-win for Clarkson. Best case for him would probably actually be a buyout since he'd get such a huge chunk of the remaining value AND could still go out and sign another contract.
Leafs have those?
It's already comedy Platinum approaching comedy Rhodium. Can a mod please change the title to comedy Platinum? This just seems out of place when compared with similar threads involving Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary.

If you have read some of Scott Cullen's tweets this morning, advanced stats are being disregarded by the Leafs coaches.
/To be fair, I think Scott Cullen relies on advanced stats too much when it comes to ranking players.
poor Habs and Sens must be feeling sad without a comedy thread. but you just dont get those you know. your team has to seriously EARN them with ineptitude.
I think Jets fans are depressed because you failed to mention them, Matty.
They'd be adding cap hit on the back end though. They would gain a bit of cap space in the short-term, and then give almost all of that savings back in the longer term.
Here's the original piece talking in more detail about the effects of structuring this way on both the payout and the cap hits.

As you’d expect, this has cap consequences. We know from Lecavalier’s contract that you have to pay a guaranteed signing bonus in the year it’s due and that you get hit with the cap consequences then. These numbers won’t be the precise cap hit but, even if Clarkson was terrible and bought out, it seems likely that the Leafs would be facing big cap hits for him because the bonus amounts are so high.
