Not sure how this is on anybody other than Alfredsson. For starters, if there was no spoken agreement of off the record beforehand then anything the media person hears is kosher for print.

I can't really see any reason why she wouldn't report this. It's the team's biggest icon saying he wants to see new ownership. It's newsworthy. Not sure why she's being tarred here.

"Off the record" came after he made that comment, according to her. She describes him as having realized what he had just said and in front of whom. The mayor even goes to her after and says "he didn't realize you were a writer" despite the fact that she says she's spoken to him on multiple occasions.

Nah, I don't blame her. If Alfie was worried he should've gone to her and promised her some sort of future access instead of played the "I don't know her" card lol.

Is it really that newsworthy, I think the majority of Sens fans want a new owner in place. Also, off the record is off the record, as long as it's stated by the interviewee, the interviewer should abide by that declaration.

So anybody can say something inflammatory in front of a reporter during a session that's on the record, realize their mistake and simply go "that was off the record" and it's fine? How does that make any sense?

Also, Alfie was mistreated by the club (and its owner) in the eyes of many. He obviously has strong views regarding this that he hasn't been public about. I don't see how this isn't newsworthy.

Hey, she's taking her shot and getting her 15 minutes of fame, good for her I guess - That said, I love the tweet above and especially the line "and in these days of social media, pretty much everyone is a reporter". Yup, that's all it takes to be a reporter these days, set up a Twitter account.

I think it's cheap on her account but I'm not really upset. Anyone who follows the team should be able to figure out that Alfredsson hates Melnyk. Not exactly a hot take.

And really how hard would it have been for her to say "an ex-Sens player and a member of the city council are hopeful that an ownership change is coming with the Ottawa Senators."

She just name-dropped instead of writing it how any sensible journalist would have. I find it kind of funny. This won't tarnish Alfredsson's reputation in Ottawa one bit. However if Melnyk and Co. trade Karlsson this offseason combined with Alfredsson's views on Melnyk the home opener might be just a Melnyk family affair.
