So Bobby Ryan has re-injured his hand. I feel for the guy because he's actually played hard and well despite the injuries but holy fuck, are your hands made out of glass? Can you not get some better gloves?

In other Sens news last night Nate Thompson led all Ottawa forwards in ice time in the first period. Nate Thompson.

And Colin White watched from the pressbox. On a team that is 9 games under .500. In February.

People have bitched about Guy Boucher's "system" over the years. I've never had a huge problem with it. It got a lot of press because of one game when he was with Tampa. I prefer a more aggressive forecheck that takes time away from defenseman who are trying to make an outlet pass. I think with the skill that most teams have on the blueline that you'll give up too much offensive zone time if you don't pressure them aggressively. That being said his scheme can work really well when the team is in sync. This was clear during last season's playoff run.

What really is starting to get me <deep breaths>, and I imagine some of the more competitive players on the team, is his love for his favourite players. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!! Thompson, Pyatt, Dumont, Burrows, Oduya...

Pyatt and Thompson are nice 4th liners (Pyatt can actually be a good third liner) but in a lost season, or any fucking season, can you not let some young players get reps? It's ridiculous. It's sooo painful to watch.

I'm OK with the guy tactically but his player usage better cost him his job if it doesn't change.

Is there a single team in the NHL where a fan can’t look at individual ice times and scream “WHY THE HELL DOES HE KEEP PLAYING THIS FUCKING GUY?!?!”?

I’m asking in all honesty because I really doubt there is. It seems like no matter what some coaches will stick to guys they think are doing things for the team even though they’re hurting them. If that’s a knock on Boucher, it’s a knock on Babcock, on Joel Q, on Boudreau, on everyone because they all do it.

It won't be long until Melnyk and one of his kids is sitting in the family garage trying to sell season ticket renewals. Eugene will be will scream "serenity now!!" each time a pissed, former STH tells him they won't pay money to watch a team that has E. Melnyk as coach, GM and starting goalie.

Thinking about it, Melnyk is/was a big Leafs fan. The delusion that come with that aside , maybe he was just a huge Harold Ballard fan.

Seriously though Wayne Scanlan (a good sportswriter who got merged from the Citizen into the cesspool that is the Sun) wrote a good article about what Melnyk needs to do to have any hope of getting fans back on his side.
