I think the talk is more about how he had the team over a barrel and could have pushed really hard. Pubic sentiment is bad, and he could have really gotten greedy and beaten the shit out of them and he didn't. He just made the sensible move, and wasn't a dick about it. Good move all around.
Which is all too rare lately. Noone is sure how to react.
I would be doing cartwheels if either Jones or Werenski were on the same deal.
1) He apparently likes the city.
2) He really likes the young guys just breaking in with the team like White, Tkachuk, Brown and Batherson among others. Thinks they could grow into something really special.
3) This one is most important. He now does not need to speak to, or have any direct contact with, Eugene Melnyk for the next 9 years.
