a friend of mine is in this movie. he is one of the guys holding down nick (not in this scene) he said when he filmed this scene everyone on set was really uncomfortable because as silly as it looks filmed when it was live nick was really convincing. he is not sure why it didnt translate on film but live he really thought nick was being stung.

The fact he said Nick did a convincing job acting is an amazement in itself.

I bet it had to do more with the scene/Nick Cage/ and the silly premise as to why it wasn't good on film. On set, it probably looked and seemed great as at that time certain folks involved probably didn't know the whole movie from start to finish?
