Speaking of Sam Bennett, he's played 9 games for Kingston and has 11 goals and 10 assists in those 9 games.
2.33 points per game. Draisaitl, on the other hand, is at 1.55 PPG. Sam Reinhart is at 1.34.

I'll never understand how the hell Bennett slipped to fourth overall.

Obviously can't fault the Panthers for taking Ekblad and the Oilers went for Draisaitl to address their size issue up front. The funny thing is that the Flames tried for over a decade to find a centre for Iggy (other than Craig Conroy) and now they might have found two gems in Monahan and Bennett.

Ekblad is cool, he's a big NHL-ready D-man and deserving of top pick, but Bennett was always the better player than Draisaitl and at the top of the draft you ALWAYS TAKE THE BETTER PLAYER!

The irony hasn't escaped me, either. I have a feeling the Leafs are going to trade Kessel to NYI and get some package of Nelson/Strome/Dal Colle in return and will wind up with 2 centres as well (plus Nylander, who's officially a C but I'm thinking he'll pro out as a winger).

Yeah but it's only 9 games. I wouldn't be surprised if you can find a 9 game stretch in Draisaitl and Reinhart's seasons where they had over 2 points a game, but we react differently when it's the first 9 games.

Draisaitl has played quite well for Kelowna and they have a good chance to be the WHL representative at this year's Memorial Cup (Brandon and Kelowna will likely meet in the WHL Championship final).

True, and last season PPG followed the order the players were drafted. Just personally, I like Bennett over the other two. Maybe it's because of who his GM is in Kingston...

The guy responsible for playing the goal horn at Rexall Centre celebrated Lee Stempniak's goal last night. Maybe he was bored?

So, now here we are. With their OT loss in Game 82, the Oilers finished with 62 points. That may sound familiar because that's the same point total they ended the 2010 and 2011 seasons with.

What's interesting is that in 2010, 62 points was good for 30th overall, a full 12 points behind the 29th place Maple Leafs. In 2011, 62 points was still 30th overall, but it was only 6 points behind 29th place Colorado.

In 2015, 62 points was good enough to be in 28th place, 6 ahead of Arizona and 8 ahead of Buffalo.

So, you see, even though they tied their second-worst point total in a non-lockout season, if you look at it the right way, they have actually improved by a full 20 points in the standings. 62 points used to be 12 points behind the second-worst team, now it's 8 points ahead of the worst team.

BAM! ... Measured improvement!

Dash, I get a fuck-ton of shit being a Leaf fan, and I am accepting of it, but if you ever decide to go wholesale anti-Leaf I might lose my sanity. Please don't :)

When Lanny was with the Leafs, I really liked Toronto. When he scored that OT winner against the Isles, I was jumping for joy. That has stuck with me all these years so have no fear, I could never go full anti-Leaf.

The Oilers were the only tankers those years though. 1/5 of the league went that route this year. Some were exceptional at it. Does it surprise anyone that even at tanking the Oilers can't get the job done?
