Ference lit into the yong Oilers core post-game last night (of course without naming names)...

"You come in here, you're up a goal and I don't think (Arizona) had a good period," said Ference. "Guys are letting their guard down, and we're in no position to be doing that — to be taking a rest and relaxing. We start the period with a power play and we're looking for some jump. You're looking for some momentum and it's a matter of falling into old habits, floating around and expecting the other team to lie down because you're so great.

"It doesn't happen, we made the same mistakes, it cost us games and it definitely puts you in a hole again. We allow two on the same power play, it's a joke."

Time to blow this MF'er up. I watched the lowlights of their game last night against the Yotes. They gave up two shorties in like 90 seconds time. That is freaking pathetic!:L What an awful excuse for an NHL team.

Do something, though. They can't just keep thinking that by getting another top three draft pick in the next draft that this will somehow be the magic elixir that will cure all their problems in the next season. They need veterans and defensemen to put around all these young draft picks.

So deal some of them. Yes, even the Hall's and RNH's and Eberle's. Because they are clearly not the solution for this team.

I will gladly trade Dubinsky for Nuge.

I mean, it's got to be a deal that makes sense. Lord knows they can't afford to F this type of move up (trading top former draft picks), but they have got to do something. They're seven points out to the next closest club in the west. Their season is over and it's the 2nd of December.

Trade someone or two or three!!! Make moves to gather draft picks, and get assets in return that can help them now and in 2015-16 with the young players in place. Not moves that help them today, but helps them next season and beyond.

The tough part for Edmonton is that anybody worth getting is likely going to have a NTC or NMC and you'd better believe that Edmonton is on their short list for teams that the player will not waive their clause. There are 29 other GM's in the league that realize that Edmonton is dealing from a position of weakness and they're not looking to do the Oilers any favours.

Dubinsky is captain material (or so I hear - poor training knocking him out for a quarter of a season not withstanding). :)

Dubinsky does not have a NTC. Nor does Jack Johnson. Two veteran leaders that can help the Oil...

Those two for Nuge and their first. :thumb:

That is true. No one in their right mind is going to accept a trade to freakin Edmonton if they have an out. That shouldn't be the reason not to deal some of theses guys, though. Oilers have clearly hit the wall for this season.

I look at them from the outside and just see a complete lack of defensemen. Ference was a good get for them, but he's really all they've got. They've got Nurse in the minors, but that is really it as far as good D-men in the pipeline. Schultz is a RFA at the end of the year. So two quality guys at the NHL level, and one prospect is all there is really to speak about on the blueline.

I think either you look to move some guys at the trade deadline or package the 2015 1st pick in order to get some defensive help. Also, the silence from MacT and Klown during this 10 game winless streak is deafening. Maybe it's time for another letter from Daryl Katz ensuring us that all is well?

No way Edmonton gives up their 1st for next year, not with a legit shot at McDavid/Eichel.

Agreed that it is not likely, but I still stand by the fact that McDavid/Eichel isn't enough to pull them out of this perpetual rebuild. Instead of losing games by 2 or 3 goals, you may end up losing games by 1 goal more often. More likely is that they pull the trigger on a deal involving Yak and Eberle.

/I don't know if you could get much for Justin Schultz these days.

Not only that, but to trade for guys for this season is utterly pointless. If they're going to do a blow up, they need to quickly revamp their scouting and development departments in-season, fire all of management after the season, wait until June and gather picks for everybody on the team not named Taylor Hall.

agreed. what's the point in a trade that will maybe get them from 30th to what... 25th? 24th?

See, you guys keep assuming that the Oil is a regular NHL team and would have success doing things that any reasonable team would do.

"Add a star at the draft and begin again". Classic. This would be what, the fifth time they've done that?

Sam Gagner was considered an important piece of this current rebuild.
He of 500 games and now on another team.

And what a remarkable return they got for Gagner.

Team needs centers and defense, goes and gets a top six winger :dhd:

While Dreger said MacTavish saw Eakins as a coach for the next 10 years, Bob Nicholson or someone else may step in and make that decision.

from the provies:
Yes, the Canucks interviewed Dallas Eakins. No, they were not close to signing him.

After the interview, Gilly said:

“He’s not ready.”

Not that that sentiment is wrong, but we are talking about the same Gilly who hired John Tortorella to coach the Vancouver Canucks, right?

Its pretty common knowledge that ownership pulled the strings on that hire
